Vote Green for dangerous roads. In more green batshittery Maggie Chapman says roads are only for wealthy white men and we shouldn't upgrade any more roads.

FFS. I guess she's never left the central belt in her life and has no idea of the reality for people who don't live in cities. 🙈

She's batshit crackers.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 06/06/2024 09:18

The roads in Edinburgh are a disgrace too!

Chemenger · 06/06/2024 09:19

Well I’m about to go on a two hour bus journey and I’d really like the road to be in good condition. I’m not a wealthy man, and none of my fellow bus users look to be either. There is no train to where I’m going so does the lovely Ms Chapman think I should just not ever leave the village?

They certainly are, my usual city bus journey is like a rollercoaster ride in places.

BigBoysDontCry · 06/06/2024 09:25

What is she even for? Never has a human being served less purpose.

Public transport is a joke. We've just had visitors to our team from various parts of England. We've had to ferry them about from train stations due to lack of taxis and buses. Trains were cancelled on the way back so we had to reroute them and at one point drive someone to Carlisle!

The person doing that drive wasn't a wealthy white man, nor was the passenger....

I don't know how many trips I ended up making but I'm not a wealthy white man either.

Timetodownsize · 06/06/2024 09:39

I can't find the link at the moment but I'm sure I read a news report about the extent to which the transport/roads budget has been slashed by the SNP/Greens. Think it was from soemthing like £50million to £12million.

Timetodownsize · 06/06/2024 09:41

I also live semi rurally and need to drive to catch the train as the buses to get to work take almost 90 minutes as opposed to 15 on the train ( assuming it turns up of course)

Homer Simpson Thinking GIF

i can’t deal with the sheer stupidity of some of our politicians. Burgess is a Highlands and Islands msp but clearly hasn’t talked to anyone in the area, ever.

rookiemere · 06/06/2024 10:14

The roads in Edinburgh are an absolute disgrace.

My friend who is in the council says it's because they used to have someone inspect them after utilities etc dug them up and resurfaced to make sure it was up to scratch, but they got rid of that role.

Roads aren't just for drivers. It makes the bus journey pretty dicey and DH won't cycle in to work in the rain as he can't tell the depth of the pot holes so is worried he'll have a serious injury.

Tinkerbot · 06/06/2024 10:16

I read that the roads budget was slashed when the greens and snp formed a gov - demanded by the greens .

RaraRachael · 06/06/2024 11:00

I live near the A96 and it's a bloody disgrace. I'm actually scared to drive on it as every single time I do, there's a near miss with some idiot overtaking in a dangerous place. Glad I have my bus pass now. Since the SNP got into cahoots with the greens they've now pushed back dualling it all the way from Aberdeen to Inverness until goodness knows when and the A9 - another major deathtrap road particularly in the summer with tourists - won't be dualled till 2035 (10 years late).

It's an absolute disgrace. How many more people will be killed in the intervening period? I bet if either of these roads were majorly in the central belt they'd have been done long ago.

It's all very well for them to say use public transport. My nearest train station is 12 miles away with trains every 2 hours made up of 2 carriages all the way from Aberdeen to Inverness. Compare that to a recent trip I made from Glasgow to Kilmarnock - trains around every 15 minutes costing a fraction of the price and 6 carriages.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 06/06/2024 11:05

smug idiot 🤬

The roads are a dangerous disgrace

GrouchyKiwi · 06/06/2024 17:16

Does she have any opinions that aren't bonkers?

Tinkerbot · 06/06/2024 17:21

This is supposedly for environmental reasons but no one else is messing about with this nonsense - oil and gas use has increased every year in the US for forever. China is still building coal fired power stations.
We need to reduce fossil fuel use but you build a good rail infrastructure and bus system first THEN penalise car users, not the other way round.

WestEndWindy · 06/06/2024 19:33

Bad roads are worse for cyclists than for 4x4 drivers.

From 502 Million in 2016/2017 according to this comment by Gillian Bowditch:

Our hellish roads are paved with poor intentions

The collapse in infrastructure spending driven by the Greens in government is a national disgrace

Thanks @Igneococcus - that's the article I meant.

Well quite!

Maybe the roads should self identify as cycle paths and then the greens would invest in our infrastructure.

No need to worry - we can all travel by ferry.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 07/06/2024 20:47

wealthy white men? She’s a parody. I used to once be a member of the greens. They’re crazy now.

Precipice · 12/06/2024 21:33

Does she think only wealthy men commute to work?

All the poor are doing rural work like serfs? Or retail jobs in their quaint little villages? And the women what? Tied to the stove?
