Lots of beautiful places?

If you could live anywhere (in Perthshire and above in the Highlands) with a great community spirit, beautiful countryside (forests/loch/woods/farm land) "reasonable" house prices and lovely small primary school .... where would you live?

Ballater

Dearg · 27/04/2024 20:05

Sorry, a bit north of Perth, but everything you listed is right there.

Escapetothesun · 27/04/2024 22:46

Inverness fits the bill, however some schools are big and house prices are dear!

TobyEsterhase · 28/04/2024 13:48

Dunkeld

I really like visiting Inverness but was looking for a smaller town/village etc. Really love it when we spend a weekend there. Thanks

Anyone know any smaller towns/villages that fit the bill?

Near Aviemore. The town itself isn't beautiful but Rothiemurchus and around are very very special.

Anywhere in the Strathspey area.

Kingussie
Newtonmore
Aviemore
Boat of Garten
Dalwhinnie

All small villages and not that far from Inverness.

whistablenative · 29/04/2024 15:32

I was about to start a similar thread OP (but asking about Dumfries & Galloway!)

Check out Aberfeldy?

NetballHoop · 29/04/2024 15:38

Rogart. Small with a lovely primary school and it even has a station.

Abzs · 29/04/2024 15:48

Upper Deeside. See Ballater above, also Crathie, Braemar, Tarland, Torphins, Kincardine o'Neil, Logie Coldstone.
I'm omitting Aboyne because you said small school.
Look at Donside too.
There are lots of small schools in pretty places in the Shire.
House price reasonableness depends on where you're moving from...

Definately Comrie and Dunkeld

MrsAmaretto · 29/04/2024 16:23

Killin, Comrie, Grandtully, Aberfeldy, dunkeld, Pitlochry, Crainlarich, Crieff, lots of villages in Perthshire, Aberdeenshire, highlands would fit your description.

Key to me would be school size which would rule out a 1 or 2 class school, but likewise a large school like Crieff.

Dollar is very pretty. I don't know much else about it apart from it having an independent school but it's very pretty and more convenient for the central belt than the places mentioned that are further north.

Februaryfeels · 01/05/2024 21:42

As you asked for Perthshire and above, I'd also say Dunkeld. I'd live there in a heartbeat

Also Dornoch is lovely.

RainStreakedWindows · 04/05/2024 10:03

Ballater
Banchory
Dornoch
Findhorn

Fundays12 · 05/05/2024 18:10

Nairn, black isle area or any smaller villages outside Inverness like kirkhill though if you have kids it's worth considering that a lot of family activities, clubs, cinema, theater etc is in Inverness so living rural may mean a lot of driving in snowy conditions icy roads in the winter
