Good Friday in Scotland

Chatting with my mum and she said that we didn’t used to get Good Friday off school when I was growing up in the 80’s.

I honestly can’t remember if we did or didn’t as so used to getting it off now. Can anyone else remember?

I don’t think we did specifically, it was just whether Easter fell in the school holidays or not. Ours are in on Friday (or I bloody hope they are as I’ve not planned for them to be off!)

Mine are off on Friday so just assumed that we always got it off but maybe not!

I was brought up Catholic so remember the (verrrry) long Good Friday Mass in the afternoon but also remember school in the morning first. Denominational school for me, but also recall my pals playing skipping whilst I had to get ready for church so might have been a half day -also 80s.

Don’t remember Good Friday being a public holiday in Scotland when I was young.

I taught in Scotland in the 80s. Holiday was always the same: first two weeks in April, regardless of when Easter fell. Sometimes in school on GF, sometimes not. If Easter Monday wasn't in those two weeks (and really don't remember ...) we would prob have had that as an extra day.
