parking near Central station to collect granny...

My mother has gone to my brother's "down south" for Christmas. I am picking her up from Central station on 30th Dec. Any time I go to Central to get a train I am usually on foot or swapping onto a London train from a local service.

Mum struggles with her mobility, especially going up/down stairs. Where can I park as close as possible to the station for an easy pick up? DH thinks there is still parking actually in the station, I thought that was long gone. And although she struggles walking, she doesn't have a stick, wheelchair or blue badge or anything...

Taxis and buses can pull up outside the front of the station, not sure about private cars though? You could wait somewhere nearby and just swing by and collect her when she calls you?

How bad is her mobility? There is a multistorey on Mitchell lane, back entrance to Frasers where you could park, but that a 5min walk away.

If you look in the 'Interchange' section there is information about the car park

Two closest car parks are NCP Central Station and NCP Mitchell Street.

If you download the NCP App you'll get slightly cheaper prices, as they can be a bit eye watering, but worth it for the short journey from the station.

Thanks both, I wasnt aware that you could access the NCP direct from the station rather than having to go out, round and back in again. That's probably the best option.

The good old days of being able to drive into the station and pick up are long gone. There is also bus gates as well as taxi ranks right outside on Hope Street so no chance of you parking there. I've managed to get parked on Wellington Street. Means you can walk out the entrance onto Hope St which doesn't have steps. Does require MIL being able to walk about 3-4 minutes and across Hope St. Good luck.

I don't think you can access it from within the station. But it's very close. Definitely prebook and use the app otherwise it'll cost you a small fortune.

There's also a bus lane on Union st where the steps are coming out of Central that is closed for normal cars 7am-7pm

Qpark on Jamaica street is my parking place of choice. Being in the station would be better though.

I do like Q park in general, they are expensive but clean and well lit and not full of dark corners where you're likely to find a junkie.

Emailed Scotrail and got a v prompt reply from "Rachel" - NCP car park is accessible from platform 15. Excellent.

Brilliant. I had no idea and I've lived here and used the station for decades!
