After many years of flying Took my chances on travelling from SW England to NE Scotland with the kids to see family by train .......on friday.

Basically trains from Edinburgh cancelled now if we can even get that far so not taking chances of being stranded.

Red warnings all around the NE
How bad is it going to get? Are people worried?

I land in Scotland tonight and need to drive from Edinburgh to Dundee. What's the chances?!

Amber warning in force until 1800, so conditions likely to be worsening all day.

Most of the road closures are to the north of Dundee at present

I'd keep an eye on lists of road closures (not sure what the best master list is, saw a BBC article with one earlier this morning)

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to play it by ear when we land. What a pain.

readsalotgirl63 · 20/10/2023 10:39

Might be tricky around Dundee itself according to the news reports

tigger1001 · 20/10/2023 10:47

Believe there are road closures in Dundee too - I work there and certainly our road is flooded. I would avoid driving from Edinburgh north today

Siezethefish · 20/10/2023 13:28

@Hedjwitch - can you access the road to Glenshee via Blairgowrie?

ApolloandDaphne · 20/10/2023 16:52

We flew in to edinburgh earlier then drove into Fife and the roads were okay. The small back roads were worse than the main roads. I imagine you would get to Dundee okay.

RoséProsecco · 20/10/2023 18:00

Just driven from fife to Edinburgh- was totally fine but winds seem to have picked up since then.

I'm not sure you can - I'm sure I saw something about road closures up that way

I'm on the NE east coast and we seem to have escaped it. It's raining and windy but nothing different to normal October weather here.
Seems to be worst from Stonehaven to Montrose and inland.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/10/2023 12:31

Montrose still ok
Definitely wetter but nothing that bad.
