We are travelling up to Edinburgh in November to see a show at the Usher Hall and are looking for any recommendations for a decent nearby restaurant, particularly Chinese or Indian but will eat anything 😂

Just a quick note lots of people think events are at the usher hall when they are at the assembly rooms on George street. Mainly because the tickets have a big 'usher hall' sign so just a warning to double check I know lots of people who've ended up at the wrong venue!

Done is very good, just next to the Usher Hall.

There are loads of places on Lothian Road if you have a look on Google.

We've booked to go to Dine when we are at a show in December.

Kanpai for Japanese, Bentoya for casual Japanese.
New Japanese place on the corner of East Fountainbridge and Lothian Road.
La P'tite Folie for French.
Ting Thai.
Taco Libre for Mexican.
Vietnamese Food & Coffee on Queensferry St.
Golden Dragon

The Everest is a Nepalese/Indian at home street. It's very good and I say that as someone who isn't a big fan of Indian food.

It's Dine not Done but agree it's good, have had a few nice meals here.

Everest is fantastic, I’m also a big fan of Streets of Beijing opposite.

None will top the utterly bonkers and sadly missed Lee On though. I saw JK Rowling there once you know 🧐

Thanks for the heads up! I've double checked and is definitely at the Usher Hall!

Oops! Of course it’s Dine

The Red Squirrel pub
Kyloe
Vesta
Wigham's wine cellar
There's pizza express, ASK, Zizzi and Wagamama nearby too if you don't want anything too fancy.

MorrisZapp · 19/10/2023 11:08

Nandos is in plain sight of the Usher Hall entrance should a hunger emergency strike.

I notice that Shakespeare's pub (also in plain sight) is a world away from it's disreputable past now, it's beautifully appointed with great staff and plentiful bar food. Brilliant atmosphere.

Menopants · 19/10/2023 11:08

Spirit of Thai right next to the usher hall is good

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 19/10/2023 11:55

If you like fried chicken Buck’s, almost directly opposite the Grindlay Street entrance, is tasty and fun as well- it’s done out like an American dive bar.

rookiemere · 19/10/2023 12:22

Chakoo for Indian is very close to Usher hall, or China Red is a decent buffet restaurant just round the corner.

The lee on. Sadly missed. The service was quite a thing. Totally bonkers

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/10/2023 13:47

China Red is all you can eat buffet Chinese just next to it. It's been years since I've been, but they had barbecue sections and bits where things are cooked fresh for you as well.
