Parking near Haymarket in Edinburgh

We have an appointment near Haymarket Station at 10.30am next week. For various reasons, we will have a 2.5 hour drive to get there and this can’t be changed. What’s the closest place that will definitely have parking spaces available at 10am for a couple of hours?

I’m looking at the Q Park at Capital Square because they are usually realistically sized bays - is that terribly busy? Parkopedia is great, but local knowledge is much better.

if you’re driving from the north or west, I’d be tempted to park at the airport p&r (free) and get the tram to Haymarket.

There’s a big underground car park at Edinburgh Quay on Fountainbridge and another on Semple Street that are a 5/10 min walk away but I don’t know how busy they gets these days.

You will be unlikely to get a space at Edinburgh Quay or Semple street at that time on a weekday as they are usually fill by 8.30am.

Q park is probably your best bet as it’s fairly recently opened and very expensive so not so likely to get filled by office workers cars!

I’d wondered about using the tram, and then compared the cost of it for two of us against parking in the centre. It might still be the better idea.

Good to know about the other ones too, thanks 😊

I would park at ingliston park and ride or the gyle and get the tram in.

AmIAutumnalNow · 27/09/2023 07:34

I would also park at ingliston and get the tram

Less than £8 return for two if you. I'm sure that's cheaper than parking

SleepyFergus · 27/09/2023 08:07

Def the p&p and tram option. Trawling round the car parks when you're against the clock is no fun, coupled with all the hundreds of roadworks = stress!!

Brazilagogo · 27/09/2023 09:28

You’ve just made me realise that travelling from Ingliston is not the same as going to the airport and it’s less than 1/2 the price so just less than the Q Park and without the stress! Edinburgh roadworks still going strong then? 🥴

Thank you all 😊

You could park at Fountain Park. I think it's three hours free parking when you validate your ticket. I've parked there a couple of times when I've had appointments on Lothian Road and validated my ticket at Cineworld no problem.

That’s an interesting option that I’ll remember for the future, thanks. I think, since we’re likely to be cutting things very fine, getting the tram in will be cut out the risk of roadworks for us.

As an alternative, if you are worried about getting a space, you can prebook spaces at the NCP park at castle terrace via the website. It's in the centre of town and only 15 mins on foot from Haymarket but leave plenty of time to drive it as a one way system.
It's also eye wateringly expensive at £12 an hour.
If I was coming from out of town I would use the park and ride but I do hate driving through town.

DinnaeFashYersel · 29/09/2023 08:51

Park at Ingliston and take the team.

£3.80 return is cheaper than any parking in town. Easy to get a space and the team is relaxing.

Trams are every 7 minutes and the journey is about 23.

Spacehopperno1 · 29/09/2023 14:17

You won’t get 2 hours but maybe 90 minutes at the Coop or Lidl supermarkets on Dalry Road. Coop is just round the corner.

SpeedyMackechnie · 29/09/2023 14:26

I'm also looking for parking in Edinburgh next week and have been make aware of this website. It lets you prebook parking. I'm managing to get 6 hours parking (albeit late afternoon into evening) for £12, very close to the event on Lothian Road. Need to be close for elderly mother who isn't very mobile, but not immobile enough for a blue badge!

I can't work out how to attach a picture without also attaching pictures I've previously posted on Mumsnet, but if you go on to Just Park and put in Haymarket, 10.30 till 12.30 you can book parking on distillery road for £4. It says it's 1 minute away from Haymarket and looks like the one I'm booking for next week, so will be on a road behind a barrier.

Brazilagogo · 29/09/2023 23:54

@SpeedyMackechnie I’d found the Just Park website too and would have definitely considered it in normal circumstances, since there’s a parking spot literally across the road from where we need to be, but the timing is going to be tight as we will be travelling in rush hour from the west coast so Ingliston park and ride is the best option for us this time.
