Mine are 15 and 11 and its been a long summer. They are so ready to go back.

I think my 15 year did the whole of playstation this summer. I am ready for him to go and roll his eyes at the teachers instead of me.

My 16 year old ds has been taking himself to the gym and swimming. Has been to the pictures and trips to various places with friends using his free bus travel. I'll miss his inane nattering tbh.

My 19 year old dd has been working over the summer and will go back to Uni in a few weeks so have only seen her In the am and pm. I'll probably see her more when she's back at Uni.

I've quite enjoyed the holidays; probably because the kids are a bit older.

Mine are 7, 5 and 1. I've tried to enjoy the holidays. I've tried to take them to some nice places, get toys out they've not played with for ages and set them up, arrange play dates, put them into camps etc.

They've whinged and moaned and fought, wrecked the house repeatedly, been glued to their screens unless I prise them off, complained bitterly about anything and everything. I'm left wondering how I've failed so badly at parenting already and how I'm going to get through the next 17 years.

There have been some lovely moments for sure, but yes. I'm ready to go back to the school routine. I feel like I've let them down.

S1 and S3 here I don't think I've been so desperate to get them back to school ever! It's been a bit of a rubbish summer for them, we didn't get away and it's been long and boring!!

I’m pissed off because the bus will be rammed with all the wee shites hopping on and off for one stop. I think the free bus pass has been a terrible idea, some of these kids literally won’t walk the length of themselves.

Mine went back today 🙌

It's been a bit of a slog of a summer with rubbish weather. We all find the lack of routine in summer a bit trying.

Fundays12 · 15/08/2023 22:39

Mine went back today and I was absolutely delighted. Eldest has autism and ADHD and has been a nightmare most of the summer and the 6 and 4 year old overall did well and were good but got totally fed up, started fighting with each other which they generally don't do much, moaned, whinged and cried a lot plus being stuck in with constant rain was downright miserable. My house was constantly untidy which I hate and I struggled to keep on top of housework. They all went of to school and nursery happy this morning and came home happy as did I with a new hair cut and colour. I am starting to think 6 weeks school holidays only suits Mary Poppins and the kids she cares for or those that can afford a nanny, cook, cleaner and endless entertainment.

Facebook is filled with P6 parents horrified at paying for school dinners.

We've been having to pay for
My P7 since P4 so struggling to find the sympathy this morning 😂

Anyway that's my P7 and S4 off and away.

That's ds (S6) away too. He needs to find out if he's actually able to take any of his classes as the AH maths teacher has left to go to another school and he was told AH physics is also not available now.

of course you haven’t failed at parenting, don’t be daft (in a nice way). Kids that age can be hard work!

@Backtothe90splease that’s pretty much every Summer for us, starts with rosy tinted optimism, ends in a fit of recrimination, exhaustion and usually screeching. It’s just parenting 😂 except if you’re Mary Poppins or you have staff as fundays says.

just repress the bad memories!

Oh yes, the buses virtually grind to a halt, so many kids getting on and off. I don't grudge them the passes generally. Saves parents having to drive them everywhere and gives them some independence. Also, I remember having embarrassing arguments with bus drivers who didn't believe I was entitled to child fares (5'8" at 13)
