Live closer to Glasgow but happy to travel to a good restaurant to take my friend to for a celebration. She is a bit picky but likes good food, no seafood though! We don’t get out often so no idea where to go, looked at The Spence in Edinburgh but that’s a bit too pricey! Where would you recommend ?

Thanks, been to six a few times and love it. Had a bad allergy experience at the gannet, was wondering about beat six though or bilson 11?

I’ve never been to Bilson 11, but it looks great. Cail Bruich or Spanish butcher?

6 by Nico have opened a new branch on byres road recently

Our favourites in Glasgow are:

Celentanos
Number Sixteen
Ubiquitous Chip

We also had a lovely meal at L'Escargot in Edinburgh.

Hope you have a lovely time wherever you end up.

I'd give Number Sixteen a go. It's at the bottom of Byres Road in Glasgow.

It's quite small so not too noisy and the food is incredible.

Brett on Great Western Road is very good, small plates and incredible flavours. Nice atmosphere too.

I love Ox and Finch in Glasgow.

agnesmartin · 06/08/2023 14:55

Oh, love Ox and Finch and Bar Brett also.

And Eusabi Deli

If you can go to South Queensferry there is The Boathouse, Thirty Knots and Scott's which are great for meals.

gawditswindy · 07/08/2023 21:15

The Butchershop or Ox and Finch are my favourites. Spanish Butcher is also lovely.

Fanny Trollops, quite near the Finnieston 6 by Nico. Or if you go further out Modu in Hyndland is really nice

Browns Bar and Brasserie, George Square in Glasgow. Cannot recommend it highly enough. The food is fabulous and you won't get better customer service anywhere.

Dine at Cambridge Street in Edinburgh. Various other Dines in Edinburgh but the Cambridge Street one is my favourite. It’s beside the Usher Hall, not too far from Haymarket Station and they have a 2 course lunch deal with tea and coffee included for around £20. They also do some tasty £5 cocktails. It’s a nice place and I like the light up tree in the centre of the restaurant. They are not paying me to post this, I just like them as it’s very rare to have a special meal these days without feeling ripped off.
Scotts and Thirty Knotts in Queensferry can be a bit iffy and the food can be expensive but average. The Boathouse has some terrific views of the bridges.

Aizle in Edinburgh is amazing.

Thanks for the suggestions, we went to Modou in the end and it was fantastic so would recommend!
