What do you love about your leather sofa

And where did you buy it?
Preferably in and around Edinburgh.
I know I'd like a heavy duty hardwood frame and hard-wearing leather.
I've never bought a brand new sofa and would really value some opinions please.
Thank you 😊

Easy wipable.
With DC & dog the leather still looks great after around 20 years. It was an M&S one.

shelbabab · 27/05/2023 15:39

We got 2 power recliner ones from sofology. It's the morena. It was so expensive (over £4k) compared to other sofas I've bought including leather ones but it is absolutely stunning. So modern looking, stylish and comfortable (and wipable) got 2 young kids so the fabric one had been destroyed with spills.

Sofology were awful though, after waiting 4 months for the sofas they delivered me 1 and told me they cldnt locate the other in the warehouse 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had to constantly chase them, they were hardly apologetic. Took another 4 months to get what we ordered. They still haven't responded to my complaint which was a year ago now 😂 we got no compensation at all they made out they were doing me a favour giving me a loan sofa (it was grey and our sofa was black) 🙈

MissyB1 · 27/05/2023 15:43

Wipeable! And dog /kid friendly. We got ours from SCS, I don’t know if you have that company in Scotland?

theblackradiator · 27/05/2023 15:45

leather is so easy to just wipe clean and don't have to worry about spillages or pets mess and smells. my leather 3 piece was given to me by a relative and is over 20 years old and was very expensive. only trouble is the shape and style of it is very dated now.

BittenontheBum · 27/05/2023 16:58

Yes we have SCS @MissyB1 . I'll add them to my list to check out.
Thank you for the heads up about Sofology @shelbabab , I'm sure I'd heard that about them before.
Anyone any experience with Oak Furniture Land?

All your input has been most helpful, thank you 😊

I got my leather one from Harvey’s in Stirling (not sure it’s still there) and it’s still looking great (probably had it about 8+ years). Got dogs and cats who are all over it every day. It’s easy to wipe clean, polish off stains if you need to, etc.
I do have a velvet Sofology one too (Straighton, near IKEA) and I never had a problem with it or them.

HelpMebeok · 27/05/2023 17:10

My leather sofa is 20 years old and has survived two dogs, my two children and me being aFoster Carer. It's still in good condition. It has had every substance known to man split on it.

largeagegapWLW · 27/05/2023 17:51

If you can be bothered going to Sterling at Tillycoultry they have some ex display sofas - I'd recommend the Bo Concept stuff. In fact Bo Concept have ex display at each of their showrooms but at Sterling you'll find lots of different brands.

Mine was a cheapy Argos one 25 years ago. I did have the seats recovered s couple of years ago though. All looks perfect still. In the two weeks of heatwave a year i sit on a blanket.

theblackradiator · 27/05/2023 18:39

my cousin got an absolutely beautiful leather sofa from next a 3 seater and a 2 seater. it was expensive though at £4000 but it is lovely and looks expensive. have a look at next.

BittenontheBum · 27/05/2023 19:40

@HelpMebeok , where did you get yours from please?
I will add Sterling and Next to my list thank you @largeagegapWLW & @theblackradiator .
@RuthW I really would like something I can sit on and try out but thank you for your help. 😊

We have two leather chairs form Next. They have proven to be very hard wearing and still look like new.

Fandangoes · 27/05/2023 19:45

The big Sterling store at Tillicoultry is fab. It took me about 5 years to find a sofa I liked but I live my new tan leather sofas from there and service was great too

BittenontheBum · 27/05/2023 21:18

We seem to have a Sterling furniture store in Edinburgh. Great news for me 😊 thank you

Ours is over 18 years old and wearing well. If you are buying educate yourself to the different types of leather, Iirc from when we bought not all leather is equal.

We got ours from SCS but at the time it was the only one in the shop at that build quality and they were discontining it because not many were selling due to price point.

Dilbertian · 27/05/2023 22:03

Mine looks a as though it has removable seat cushions and back cushions, like my cloth sofa does, but they are not removable. They are someone attached to the sofa at the bottom or back of the side face of the cushion. This means that nothing is ever lost down the back of the sofa. Yes, crumbs and fluff and stuff accumulate in the grooves between the cushions, but after you've extracted the coins and other valuables, a quick pull through with the vacuum cleaner nozzle sorts the rest out. Also means that every part of the sofa can be wiped clean, nothing soaks in. Very useful if you've got small, leaky children.

We've had ours about 15 years, and have never got around to using the leather care kit that came with it. Looked as good as new until we got a cat. Unfortunately the zone he likes to jump on and off from now has quite a few scratches.

TheScottishPlay · 27/05/2023 22:13

We're in Angus but got our 3 and 2 seater Chesterfield leather sofas from Saxon, based in Lancashire 10 years ago. Great service and delivery. Very comfy sofas, age great and easy to clean. Only problem is I'm vegan now.

TheGaffer · 29/05/2023 07:13

dont get it from John Lewis…we got ours from there…looked fabulous, super comfy and cost a bomb…5 years on it’s a saggy mess 😞 (but still comfy and since we spent so much on it, I’m loath to get rid of it, even if I do inwardly sigh when I walk into the living room)

Brightredtulips · 29/05/2023 08:38

DFS. 2 chairs with footstool with storage and sofa, bought 20 yrs ago. Still looks good. Has survived 4 children, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Still comfortable. Nice shape and nicely curved arms.

Sugarfree23 · 29/05/2023 08:40

It looks good, but actually my fabric sofa in the kitchen I bought on a whim from Frasers is much more comfy.

BittenontheBum · 01/06/2023 07:01

Thank you so much for your replies 😊
Does anyone have a modular sofa?
I looked at one yesterday.
I absolutely loved the the shape and leather quality but I wasn't sure how well they hold together over time??

20 years old and still going strong after two kids and 10 cats.

Rina66 · 01/06/2023 07:47

Ours is Next, looks really good after 12 years, polishes up beautifully - we like to eat chocolate and snacks in front of the TV, so fabric would get destroyed.
My only tips would be make sure you get thick seat cushions, fairly firm as they will give.
Not too thick arms (unless you have lots of space) as that takes up room from the seating part.
Buy a matching big foot stool to use as a coffee table with a wooden tray on, then use it for feet up in the evening.
Get a heated fur throw for winter.

mondaytosunday · 01/06/2023 10:19

Wipable, fairly indestructible, if good quality can look better with age. Got mine at Old Boot Sofas in London, but I think they are online too.

Onemyownhere · 06/06/2023 16:13

I've just got rid of my leather sofa, I found it cold to sit on and it had cat scratches it on it, I hated the idea of constantly having to put a throw over it aswel
