How long is the wait to get a wisdom tooth taken out?

I’m aware I may be asking how long a piece of string is… thought I’d post here incase Scotland has different wait times!
Recurrent infections in wisdom tooth, been referred a few weeks ago to get it removed. Has anyone any recent experience of how long the wait is? Thanks!

Through the local hospital - NHS I should add.

This will vary by health board so you'd need to say which health board.
Your dentist should be able to give you an idea of how long people are waiting at the moment

I have to have mine removed at Denal Hospital in Glasgow. Waited 5 weeks for appointment for xray. Then 2 weekss later I will have zoom call from Dentist. Not sure when I will actually have my OP.

I've just been told today I need one removed. And that I will most likely wait up to 8 months. And thats in D&G!

Just for anyone lying awake at night wondering about an update - I got a letter through recently to say I’ll be seen mid June.
However the letter expressly says no treatment will be carried out and it’s only a consultation.
So probably another good few months to wait on top of that 🙃

Blimey, waiting times have gone up in the last two years? I'm in Ayrshire and Arran, during the very first lockdown I needed a wisdom tooth taking out as an emergency, it was about a three day wait? Something like that.
Then because of an underlying medical condition I had to have the one on the other side taken out to fix my jaw, and that was only a ten day wait because I went away on holiday (they would have done it there and then but I was literally flying the next day).

Does Ayrshire & Arran have its own dental hospital or did they refer you somewhere else?

QwestSprout · 26/04/2023 22:49

In the lockdown I went to somewhere that I think was thrown together as an emergency dental centre just for the pandemic? It wasn't local, it was like an 'all the Ayrshire's get referred here'.

Ah, ok.

I'm in Edinburgh. Had an initial consultation at the dental hospital recently and was told then that 6 months would be the minimum wait to get the tooth taken out and it could well be longer.
