Things to do in the holidays near Glasgow?

We haven't been away on holiday for 2 summers now so we are running out of places to go and visit. DC are 7-10 and generally amenable, like interesting old things and a good park.

Any out of the box ideas? DD has a hankering for the Culloden experience but it's just too far a drive.

Are you on the'help what am I going to do today' fb page? HUGE list of stuff on that!

Tiredoftiers · 09/04/2023 22:02

Yip that list on there is epic! It’s pinned on the top of the group so you can find it easily. And annotated with a wee key for things like cost accessibility etc. well worth joining for.

drizzlymizzly · 09/04/2023 22:07

That sounds brilliant, I've just put a request in to join.

Polly's list is good too- Antonine wall forts and Doune Castle are both on my list now.

Cairnpapple hill is good too - double check the historic Scotland website/app for these ones. Quite a few are closed for maintenance/safety reasons at the moment.
we love our historic Scotland membership!
Finlaystone country estate has lovely walks, a nice cafe, gardens and a few different play areas around the woodland areas too!

Is around Edinburgh too far? Boat trip to Inchcolm Island, Go Ape & Fort Douglas in Dalkeith Country Park, Foxlake combined with North Berwick, axe throwing, escape rooms.

Whitelees windfarm
Cycling at Lochwinnoch
Inveraray jail
Cruachan hollow mountain
Ski lessons (Bellahouston Park or Glencoe)
Stirling Castle
Bannockburn
Finlaystone

Would a night in cheap hotel in Inverness be manageable to enable a trip to Culloden? Then you could do lots around there on the way up and back.

Roman head near Auchenstarry marina
Police museum in Bell St
