Can anyone advise if theres a walkable route from Largs to Kelburn Castle? Seems it's only 2 miles but can't tell if there's a safe route.

Thank you.

It’s not the best route and it’s a fair trek if you have kids with you, there’s a decent bus service though, I don’t drive and I used to take the kids regularly and hop on the bus, drops you off at the gate, not sure what the timetable is at this time of year though. When I say it’s not the safest, I just mean the pavements are very narrow (non existent) not that it’s dangerous in terms of being secluded.

It’s not the best

Its not great. Most of the way has pavement but there’s a stretch that’s 60 and has only a tiny strip of pavement.
No idea about the bus service.

If it’s for the festival then you’ll usually get a lift as folk from site are back and forth.
Top tip, instead of trying to get a lift from the station go to the Morrisons

I think you can walk along the path on the shore (past the Pencil) and then walk through the Marina to get to the main road. I'm sure I've walked this route before. The road is very busy without pavements though.

We won't have kids and it's just for a day out really as neither of us has been. My concern was narrow pavements along a busy road. I'll look into the bus timetable and see what it says. And maybe explore walking the way you've described @S0upertrooper back to the station.

Without small kids it's fine - about 45 min. Exit the station to the left as you leave the platform cut through to the sea front and then follow the path south along the shore to the Pencil (20min) then up to the back of the camper van car park and along the back of the marina still on the sea side of the railway then cross under further along and stay off the main road until almost opposite Kelburn entrance. My Google maps even picks it up as a walking route option. Main road isn't a nice walk, narrow pavement and fast cars after the Marina.

@Plump82 on the left of this screenshot is a green footpath that goes from the ferry, past the play park, pencil and through the Marina. If you go through the marina, you might not have to walk on the road, just cross over it.

Have a look on Google maps for a better view.
