Good spa within a couple of hours of Edinburgh?

Please can anyone recommend any, preferably with an outdoor pool. I had thought to treat myself with the Sheraton One Spa, but recent reviews are very poor.

The Carrick spa, the blythswood and gleddoch house all have outdoor infinity pools. A bit further afield is Portavadie x

Stobo

rookiemere · 01/03/2023 21:08

Great suggestions thanks. I'd not heard of Gleddoch before, and never been to Stobo.

Gleneagles

RedCorvette · 01/03/2023 21:43

I've been to Old Course in St Andrews and Gleneagles spas recently - I'd recommend both, but Gleneagles wins hands-down, it's amazing.

Gingerkittykat · 01/03/2023 22:12

Crieff hydro hotel, it has a beautiful Victorian pool too.

rookiemere · 02/03/2023 07:02

More suggestions thank you !
I did look at Gleneagles but it was super pricey.
@ivegotthisyeah maybe we will turn it into an overnight or useful for a longer trip Smile.

Never been but photos of the Roxburghe Schloss at Kelso look fab. About an hour from Edinburgh.

boobot1 · 02/03/2023 07:20

Matfen hall Northumberland

WeeLors · 02/03/2023 07:24

Norton House hotel just outside Edinburgh has a nice spa.

BeetleyCarapace · 02/03/2023 07:25

Gleneagles. Worth the splurge. The spa is excellent.

The one in the Calley is also really good, although that’s in Edinburgh itself obviously.

doodlejump1980 · 02/03/2023 07:28

Fonab (spelling?) near pitlochry is meant to be amazing

LadyMcLadyface · 02/03/2023 07:35

Dunkeld House Hotel is meant to be good

Hello people! As OP said, recent reviews for onespa in edinburgh seem poor. Has anyone been recently who can actually vouch either way? Thanks!

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 24/04/2023 01:33

@Ladybug99 DH was going to a work conference in Feb and I tagged along thinking result.. morning shopping then luxury spa afternoon to keep myself amused. The hotel itself felt a bit unloved with a grubby carpet. The spa was just plain OK - a busy, slow service and a mediocre massage.

Cameron House, with rooftop infinity pool is lovely.
Gailes spa lacks outdoor but definitely worth a mention.

rookiemere · 24/04/2023 07:23

We actually ended up going to Hotbox Spa at Taymouth Marina. The views were amazing, I loved it.

Thanks so much for your reply! I was considering the annual membership (better value than some gyms/ the day pass) as I lovesauna and steam, but having doubts now 😢Glad you found somewhere good for a special day out!

Rollerboots · 24/04/2023 18:41

I’ve just been to One spa for a 3 hours visit. I didn’t have a treatment , so can’t comment, but I thought the sauna / steam / pool / jacuzzi were all great. Nice and quiet on a Tuesday, the jacuzzi and pool were the perfect temperature and so many different rooms to try I ended up staying for 5 hours without being chased!
not was immaculate, with unobtrusive staff around if you needed them.
I will definitely be back.
I just fancied a wee day in the jacuzzi etc without paying a fortune, would normally have gone to The Carrick at Cameron house but they didn’t do a facilities only day and I didn’t want to spend £160 on a treatment / lunch and 2 hours session.
I spoke a friendly guy who is a member and he was very happy with the gym and personal trainer service included in his membership.

Ladybug99 · 25/04/2023 18:44

Thanks so much- sounds exactly what I need: greatly appreciated! At 1,600 a year, it’s not so much more than a fancy gym, and feels like just what I need after having a baby! 🤞🤞Glad you enjoyed it 😊

The One Spa at the Sheraton is really in need of a refurb. They need additional staff to keep the changing rooms tidy, there are stains from leaks on the ceiling and tiles missing around the place. The showers often have one at least out of action, have run out of shampoo/conditioner and need the hair removed from the floor.

I think there are some guests that also don't know how to behave, such as taking your towel to the towel bin afterwards, using earphones in the sauna rather than playing videos on loudspeaker, not filming in the various areas.
Feel like I'm being taken for a mug paying £100 / month for this. Not had a treatment for a while as even with the members discount it's cheaper to go elsewhere. It really has seen better days but I've seen this week that the Sheraton is up for sale so who knows what will happen.
