What does this mean? I am sure when I looked earlier in the year it said something about being Scottish Government funded.

Am I reading far too much into this, or could it be indicative of some kind of policy change?

Two things spring to mind:

Not everyone who is living is Scotland is eligible for their fees to be paid.

The fees need to be paid by someone so they need to set an amount to claim back from the Scottish government.

I think it is the amount the Scottish Government pays. Last year it was £1820. So you see why they wouldn’t be keen to take on more Scottish students even if they hadn’t capped the number they pay for. They need the overseas students to subsidise the Scottish ones.

I’m not querying the actual cost.

I don’t think it is to do with eligibility as it is aligned to Scotland/RUK/overseas

The university doesn’t set the cost for the government to pay. The government sets that figure.

Yes, fully understand the cap and the implications of it. This is why my straight-A student son stands more chance of winning the lottery rather than getting into the university that he has always loved.

But there was some rumour that that there might be some changes coming in relation to enabling self-funding rather than a blanket cap.

Amyway, thinking it through I was clearly just getting ahead of myself, because there is no conceivable way it could go from rumour to implemented that quickly without even being discussed or announced. This is what wine with dinner does to my thought processes 😅 🍷
