I honestly thought she’d keep those claws in.

Clearly doesn’t want to have a potential election defeat

I doubt that it has anythng to do with losing the next election. The next Scottish election isn't until 2026.

She was an excellent leader. Expanded early learning and childcare to 30hours free and £25 per child a week Scottish Child payment. Free Student tuition for Scot’s to go to uni or higher education.

of course everyone loves a vote buying freebie…short termism at its very best. Nurseries are now on their knees because they can’t provide they same level of service and quality as they did in the past. Free higher education? That’s if you can actually get INTO a Scottish university because places for locals have been curtailed in favour of fleecing foreign students who are actually paying. And don’t get me started on where she has taken educational standards in Scotland over her tenure. She has been an appalling leader who has ruined this country with her single minded obsession with independence at all costs. Or perhaps it’s her supreme incompetence at actually managing a country. The only thing she has so far been good at, is manipulating the masses into believe she is good at her job.

shes leaving because something is going to come out that would make her remaining untenable. She is not leaving because “she’s had enough”.

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 15/02/2023 12:31

She's leaving because of the financial fraud scandal and the police investigation.

Babdoc · 15/02/2023 12:39

A higher percentage of kids from poor homes in England go to university than poor ones in Scotland. Inconvenient fact.
The SNP couldn’t afford to fund enough free places for all the kids who got the grades- and even worse, refused to let them self fund with loans. So the places go to foreign and English paying students instead.
So no, Sturgeon has done nothing for poor students except stop them getting to uni at all.

Absolutely on her own terms with- she believes- her legacy in tact as demonstrated by the ego-fuelled resignation speech today. All before she would be pushed or forced to resign. Definitely leapt before she was pushed.

Excellent news, celebrating in this house.

Rainbowshit · 15/02/2023 12:57

She is a formidable leader. My feelings for her changed recently due to the GRA but I surprised myself by shedding a few (just a few!) small tears this morning when I heard the news. She's greatly respected but when it's time to go best to go before you're pushed.

MarshaMelrose · 15/02/2023 13:31

There's got to be something big in the wind for her to go, whether it be a personal or a political issue. No way is she going because of the state of education and health. And surely the transgender wasn't the catalyst. I just can't see her resigning to spend more time with her husband!!

But why do you think she reckoned it was time for her to go? Who was giving her a push?

Lucia23 · 15/02/2023 13:35

@MarshaMelrose well the reasons she gave were personal as well as professional, so maybe 'pushed' isn't the right word.

But within her party the tide was turning against her by a lot of people due to the gender recognition act. A lot of people are really angry about it.

BornBlonde · 15/02/2023 13:40

Delighted!

BornBlonde · 15/02/2023 13:44

Do we think the GRA issue is what pushed her over the edge?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2023 13:45

I think she has resigned due to the potential for war between Nato & Russia. Could be wrong but things are ramping up and Scotland is a base for the nuclear submarine

Um……sure….🤨

😂😂😂😂I think this is nothing to do with it.

annabelindajane · 15/02/2023 13:49

Police Scotland have been given permission to investigate the missing £600000 and the Murrell loan so with that and the toxic emails that may be released by Craig Murray think she had to go . We might also find out about the iron that she tossed out of The Balmoral window 😂

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 15/02/2023 13:53

Some of her achievements (apologies for the poor image, but the direction is clear) :

Sturgeon resigns
