Any ideas? No accommodation required. Ideally within max one hour drive from Crieff. Not keen on food / ambience Crieff Hydro. Glenturret Lalique restaurant not available …. any other ideas/ recent good experiences? Thanks

The River House In Stirling is lovely its just off the A84 . Or Fletchers do a private room that's the other side of Stirling though but it's also really nice. Or Dunblane hydro .

I went to a birthday at the Atholl arms hotel in Dunkeld; food was fantastic. They’ve spent a lot of money on it so it’s really spiffy but still has a cosy, relaxed feel. Live music a few doors down at the taybank in case anyone can keep going afterwards.

Thanks very much - will investigate

The Meikleour? Meant to be very good for food the last I heard

Hiddendoor · 26/01/2023 22:43

The River House in Stirling is a nice venue, easy to get to.

Cairn Lodge in Auchterarder is good for a special meal, fab cocktails and the food was great last time we went in the summer last year.

mrsmacmc · 26/01/2023 22:44

What about the Murraypark? I always find it has a slightly calmer vibe and relaxed than the hydro ❤️ have had a few celebratory family lunches in the conservatory area which were excellent

motherstongue · 27/01/2023 14:04

If your preference was for the Glenturret then I’m thinking you’re after something fairly special since it just recently got a Michelin Star. Nearest would be Gleneagles.

thedevilinablackdress · 28/01/2023 10:48

Cromlix Hotel ? It was a few years ago I went, very lovely.

EvelynBeatrice · 28/01/2023 17:13

Thanks to all. Cromlix is still closed for refurbishment on the date I need. Not keen on Gleneagles; Dad not keen on Dunkeld! May be River House in Stirling. Will confer with family and thanks again.

You could consider The Old Manse of Blair. It’s a little further up but same group as Cromlix.

LadyMcLadyface · 28/01/2023 17:30

Uisge in Murthly is lovely

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 28/01/2023 17:31

Herman's in Stirling is nicer than the River House in my opinion. Parking isn't great but the restaurant is near the castle and in the historic part of Stirling.

Mrsjayy · 28/01/2023 17:45

Herman's is really nice but the parking is awful and the hill steep 😃

herewego9 · 28/01/2023 18:19

What about Ballintaggart? Les than an hour from Crieff and first class.

ApresMoiLaDeluge · 28/01/2023 18:24

St Fillans is nearby and a beautiful setting - we had the private room at the Four Seasons for a family meal the night before our wedding and it was lovely (but this was 10 years ago so I can’t vouch for it recently!)

Honeybunchcrunch · 28/01/2023 22:24

Please don’t choose The Riverhouse. Although it looks beautiful the service and quality of food is not good. If you were considering Cromlix/Glenturret then The Riverhouse is simply not in the same league.

Quality of food then probably Herman’s, although it does not have a great deal of atmosphere.. There is Brea where the food is good but again the ambiance is lacking. Stirling is not great for restaurants. Sorry, I know you asked for recommendations, but there is nowhere in Stirling I would recommend for a special celebration.

jamtodayplease · 29/01/2023 17:07

Is Alyth/Blairgowrie too far? We had a lovely meal with relatives at Lands of Loyal, a few years ago admittedly. Very comfortable country house, if that's the kind of thing you're after..

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 29/01/2023 17:19

Another one I just thought about is The Grouse and Claret near Kinross? To be honest, I don't know if it's any good nowadays.

theveg · 29/01/2023 17:22

I know you're not keen but I had the most amazing meal at the strathearn at Gleneagles in December- it was fabulous and a beautiful setting.

silverclock222 · 02/02/2023 22:00

The River House is a bit hit or miss. Herman's has gorgeous food but the place needs a good clean and the staff very young and scruffy. Maybe just a bit further out but Inglewood Hotel and Spa in Alloa is excellent.
