Higher appeals

Hearing from lots of schools round here (Edinburgh) that there were not many successful Higher appeals this year. Despite what the SQA promised teachers and pupils earlier in the year, they seem to have messed up again or lied. Prelim results and school
assessments have not been taken into account in the way the SQA said they would. On emailing them regarding our situation, I was told “tough luck” in not so many words and there’s no further appeal. I didn’t even think the SQA were still working in the same way and were disbanded after 2021. Another exam fiasco affecting our covid kids.

My daughter was one of the lucky ones got all three appeals
Two advanced Highers upgraded and one higher
one subject jumped up two grades

Wow your daughter is very fortunate. I guess the SQA get that the school’s evidence was very strong. Unfortunately the impact of my DC not getting their appeal means it is no longer viable for them to apply for University this year so having to do a major rethink and look at other options. That one grade up would have made all the difference and I feel despondent as DC has worked so hard but just didn’t quite make the grade. As they have (very poorly supported) ASN it is really hard as they were so close and I feel if the school supported them they do have the potential to have got the grades they needed.

I’m so sorry Tig33. My son also has ASN and I believe that the SQA took no notice of this and the impact of disrupted schooling on his ASN at all. Yet another example of how the ASN kids are discriminated against when it comes to exams.

so many schools and parents gobsmacked by the lack of appeal success when no one believed that it would be this hard to achieve an appeal and that the SQA were still in existence to screw the kids over again.

the Scottish govt really do not care

Thank you @Parrish I feel that the material the SQA published (and sent to each candidate) gave a very different impression of the appeals process. I am glad to hear that some candidates have been fortunate and did get their appeal upheld though.
