Where would you rather live? Dunbar or Eyemouth?

I think Dunbar appears to have better schools but Eyemouth is smaller and has a more rural feel to it. Opinions?

Two of my very favourite places 😊

Dunbar is prettier and has Belhaven beach.

But Eyemouth has the seals in the harbour and the best fish and chips in Scotland.

Whats your situation? Ages of the kids, do you need a local job, housing budget?

Hummusontoast · 30/09/2022 21:25

Ah.. I love the seals. dd will be two early next year and no other children planned. Both WFH.

Both lovely! <no help>

Personally I’d go for Dunbar, but that’s just because I have a soft spot for it. Great wave pool for kids. Nice shops and coffee shops (Graze! 😍). Easy train journey into Edinburgh.

Worth considering North Berwick too.

Never been to Eyemouth but my goodness I absolutely love Dunbar ❤️ Belhaven beach is just spectacular.

ApolloandDaphne · 30/09/2022 21:32

Dunbar. Eyemouth is too out of the way for me. From Dunbar you can get into Edinburgh easily and is a lovely town.

GrouchyKiwi · 30/09/2022 22:04

I'd also go with Dunbar, though Eyemouth is lovely.

EVHead · 30/09/2022 22:06

Dunbar. Eyemouth is too far away from anything. And turning right onto the A1 to go anywhere north/west is too stressful! 😁

What a lovely dilemma to have!!

MaChienEstUnDick · 30/09/2022 22:28

I'd go where the high school is, which I'm assuming is Dunbar. Your LO will grow up in the blink of an eye and life will just be a little easier for you if you don't have to spend your life in a car.

Rapidtango · 30/09/2022 22:33

TBH I wouldn't live in Eyemouth if I had teenagers - there's been some bad anti social behaviour over the last few years.

midgetastic · 01/10/2022 16:28

Eyemouth has a high school also but Dunbar may be better for older children -

Eyemouth has a high school too

I’ve witnessed it in both tbh. Seems to be everywhere.

I saw a seal in Dunbar harbour once! I would definitely choose Dunbar as I haven't heard good things about Eyemouth High School.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 01/10/2022 20:57

I love both but I think Dunbar is a more versatile option.

liveforsummer · 02/10/2022 01:45

Dunbar is amazing. Eyemouth is nice for visits but is one of the rougher Border towns. I grew up in the Borders and at the time it didn't have a great rep. We'll known for having a worse than average drug problem and a decent amount of anti social behaviour for a small place. Of course it might have changed but I'd still pick Dunbar out the 2 regardless

Dunbar
