National Insurance number?

Just been thinking that my 16.5 yr old doesn't have a national insurance number.

Can anyone with a 16 yr old tell me if their kid has one yet? Would it have been a letter in the post or an email? I'm not sure if we've missed it or if he's not had one sent to him.

I had a quick look on the government "how to find your NI number" page and it talked about checking your P60 which he obviously doesn't have.

If someone can give me a clue where to start looking that would be helpful.

Thank you

I think your DC has been missed. My DD is 16 in September and has already been issued hers (which she can use from her 16th birthday).

I have no advice, sorry.

My ds is 16 in October this year and got his a couple of weeks ago. Do you have a child benefit claim for him (even if not taking the money) as that should mean its sent automatically.

If he has a child trust fund the unique reference number on it will be his NI number

Its sent in a letter addressed to them

This gives the number to ring

If it's the same as England it will have been sent out automatically to the last address they have for you. If you no longer receive child benefit and have moved since you did it's likely have been sent to the old address. If you have lived abroad at any point and notified child benefit the NI number will have been suspended- it's actually issued at birth but not given out until 16.

Oh that's a good tip. I'll go and check.

We do have a child benefit claim so it's weird it hasn't come. Unless we've just missed it.

And thanks for the phone number too, I don't think I clicked on far enough to get to that. I'll try that tomorrow.
