Happy Summer Holidays!! What do you have planned?

Today is the last day of school where I am.

My middle child will move to primary one in August and we want to have an amazing summer!
What does everyone have planned for the holidays?

We aren't going away anywhere due to dh work, he works nightshift and sleeps most of the day. I'm looking for plans and days out that are cheap or free but could do a few more expensive days out maybe 3 or 4 over the whole summer. We're in Lanarkshire but aren't against some days out where driving is required.
Even just ideas at home that kill some time.

Here are my ideas. If anyone has any more please add!

So far we have got listed

Lots of picnics in the park -strathclyde, calderglen, strathaven (also the zoo at calderglen)

Day out to Ayr beach and playpark

Day out to loch lomond shores, possibly sealife

Lots of walks in the local woods. Im going to make checklists of things to find and treasure hunts

Get the paddling pool out

M&ds maybe? Havent been for years

The boys have made a list of movies they want to watch from disney plus so movie nights with popcorn

Make chalk paint and paint the garden/fence/shed

Any one else have ideas of specific days out or places to go?

The kids are 8 4 and 1 if that matters for activities.
Have a fab summer!

Sorry to be that guy … but I’ll be working!

It’s the summer holidays for the kids but not everyone else.

On days I can finish a bit earlier we will do similar things to you though. I just love a day at the beach.

ClutterofStarlings · 25/06/2022 16:03

Tricky isn’t it? I’m hoping to go to the beach, but need to factor cost of petrol in a bit, recent rises have somehow taken us by surprise. A play date if I can organise one.
ive got some ancient craft kits, but will also do things like shell collecting at the beach & then making mummy a pen holder out of loo roll insides decorated with shells. Actually there’s a great video somewhere of 50 things to do with an empty loo roll, I’ll see if I can find a link.
bit of baking? Um. Bike ride?

ClutterofStarlings · 25/06/2022 16:04

Couldn’t remember if this was scotsnet. There’s a new big slide by the canal at maryhill, we’ll go there one day. State of the weather today, we’ll be making a kite to fly.

imstilljenny2 · 26/06/2022 19:33

I'm working full time so will only see DS at weekends. Plan on going to Culzean, Dumfries House, the outdoor swimming pool in New Cumnock, Edinburgh to perhaps see a show at the festival, sleepovers with friends, Kelvingrove park, the cinema if it's wet and just trying to relax. We are going to Tenerife for a week too which I can't wait for.

we’re also going to do the library reading scheme I think. It’s a long seven weeks.

Cuningar loop is good for wee ones. There is a little park and there is a (not long at al!) path that is lovely and flat / wide for bikes or scooters.

Chatelherault park is good too.

East Rogerton farm for fruit picking

PoloMintPatty · 27/06/2022 07:51

Sorry and one more... Drumpelier has a lovely park too

Kinraddie · 27/06/2022 10:56

Finlaystone Estate in Renfrewshire is so good for kids www.finlaystone.co.uk. Mine used to love it there when they were young.
Also Kelburn Castle & Estate in Largs is also fab.

mapleleavesreturn · 27/06/2022 12:05

Mostly hoping it doesn't rain for a lot of July and august here! Many picnics, and improvised 'sports' activities, involving me relaxing in the sunshine (please weather gods).

We went to Mugdock at October half term. They had a trail on and the the kids got a little prize at the end and it was £2 i think. The park was good, we had a picnic and then we went to the garden centre after for a mooch.
It was a good day if the weather is ok.

chubbachub · 30/06/2022 13:59

Sorry the post that I removed was because the screen shot I shared gave away my facebook details.

I was saying thanks to all the suggestions. Our house has been plagued by a sickness bug for the first week of the hols so all our plans went to shit. Literally.

For anyone in South Lanarkshire (not sure about north), all local leisure centres are doing kids swim free on Tuesdays. More info on their fb page.

I also seen this for mackinnon mills. Good for more spendy days

Polkemmet Country Park has a good play area, bike / walking trails and the Scottish Owl Centre.

Theonlyoneiknow · 01/07/2022 09:23

Have fun OP! What about sleeping in a tent in the garden?

Bet that’s a hoot.

and this joke is the reason we can never go to the Scottish owl centre Grin

emmathedilemma · 01/07/2022 13:45

LOL @ClutterofStarlings

chubbachub · 02/07/2022 20:11

@ClutterofStarlings that really made me howl 😆

Hows every one doing? The rain has been a bit of a nuisance but we've done plenty indoors stuff. Making play doh tomorrow and also have a soft play date with a friend.

We need some sun. I love the idea of the tent in the garden.

But the Scottish owl centre is fascinating, if not a hoot!
