Hi, did anyone fly out of Edinburgh recently and can comment on the queues for bag drop off and security?

I fly in and out of Edinburgh 2/3 times a month. It's not been hit by the same queues as elsewhere.

You can also buy fast track through security for £4.50. I get this so I do t risk missing my flight.

We paid fast track too, was reassuring to have, there were queues but they moved quickly. We were at Jet2 flight so a couple of different flights all checking in at once.

No issues at all

Nikki078 · 19/06/2022 21:42

We're flying with Ryanair but need to drop off bags and I'm a bit worried we'll get stuck in a queue there... Will go for FastTrack option too, thank you for suggesting it.

I did Fast Track back in April. Once through the boarding card check I joined the general mass confusion with no staff showing people where to go. Those in the know stand on the number, for folks unused to the Edinburgh system they just clogged up the entry points. Hoping it’s better when I fly out on Wednesday.

Security attendant told me it’s lack of staff. Takes 12 weeks for new staff to get security clearance by which time they have found another job.

Big queues last Tuesday morning but whilst slow to get get through the gates v well organised once in security hall and efficient. maybe took me 20/25 mins to get through. only had cabin bag so not sure re bag drop.

LizzieMacQueen · 20/06/2022 19:53

How does it work then if you only have cabin bags and have fast track security passes?

Do you have to join the queues winding around the outside of the building?

balletmuffin · 21/06/2022 06:33

Their website has security times in it and they are good at updating their Facebook page.

Flew out of Edinburgh Sunday evening the Sunday before last. We were hand luggage only so can’t comment on check in, but we couldn’t even get in the security hall to begin with, it was so busy they switched off the boarding pass scanning machines. That said, it was fairly well managed once we were in there. I’d defo pay for Fast Track.

My dd flew on Sunday evening. Was fine. Security q was long but they got through in a reasonable time. Flight was delayed 1.5 hours though!

Mmmmdanone · 21/06/2022 06:55

Fast track looked brilliant though.

No need to go to checkin - you just follow the signs for departures and when you reach security you go through the fast track lane.

I have never seen queues around the building.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 21/06/2022 18:44

It varies a lot but it’s not as bad as (say) Heathrow or Manchester. The airport website has a constant update with estimated queue times for security. When I’ve been recently, security has been anything from 2 minutes to 35 minutes. They’re usually pretty good at getting people through (and much more pleasant than the staff at Heathrow!).

I tend to do cabin bags only and fast-track so I can’t comment on bag drop. Significantly longer. Flying without hold baggage is a revelation, if you can do it.

emmathedilemma · 22/06/2022 16:30

RyanAir queues haven't been too bad for bag drop when I've been in recently, similarly Jet2 was busy but seemed to be coping well. TUI and EasyJet however I've seen them our of the zigzag queue and across the terminal building.

Gingersay · 29/06/2022 15:08

Don't pay for fast track if you have kids under 12 you get to use the family lane. We were about 10 mins max on Sunday and the was me having to fo the body scanner too.
Without kids your were looking about 20/30 mins

mapleleavesreturn · 29/06/2022 16:39

Thanks ginger were going through Friday that's helpful
