Tell Me Your Favourite Camper Sites in Scotland

We're staying at home for our summer holidays this year and are planning on touring round with our camper.

Does anyone have any suggestions for great sites or places to park up or areas to visit?

We've travelled over a lot of Scotland across the years but this is the first year we'll be in a camper. We like history, castles, dramatic scenery, beaches and nice walks. Good food would be a bonus. Anything with gaming or Harry Potter connections would be nice for the teen.

Also any hints for happy camper holidays - beyond lots of Wine and Gin - would be great too. Grin

Witches Craig Caravan Park, Blairlogie, Stirling, is a really good location for exploring around Stirlingshire if you are going that way. Site is nestled right in the Ochill hills, really stunning backdrop. Good amenities on it, and you've got Stirling Castle, old town Jail etc nearby in Stirling, plus, the Kelpies not far off. Not sure about Harry Potter related stuff. Doune Castle is quite near too though and gets a lot of visitors these days because of the Outlanders connection (or, if you're a different generation, Monty Python connection).😀

Thank you! I've not been to Stirling Jail for years. Our friends were married in Doune Castle and I think we went to a few vintage car rallies there. So lots of happy memories from that area.
That sounds like a perfect site to try.

Sango Sands (teen might like Golden Eagle Zip Line and Smoo Cave nearby) and Camusdarach

Oh that looks interesting and the beach is stunning! I've never been that far North although my DB's ILs came from near there. That's definitely going on my list.

And Camusdarach looks beautiful too.

Linwater or Mortonhall if you fancy somewhere that's easy to take a trip into Edinburgh.

There's Ellie on the Fife coast. Or Tantallon near North Berwick.

Craigtoun meadows in St Andrews is a lovely site, the amenities are spotless and a nice games room and restaurant on site. Books up quickly though!

Comrie Croft is a popular site but it might be tents only.

Agree with Witches Craig but I think they may have closed?

happygolurkey · 15/05/2022 22:46

Witches Craig was still open on Wednesday, so unless something's changed since then?

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 16/05/2022 10:34

Thanks for all the suggestions @Invisimamma
I actually lived in Fife for a while. I'm sure I must have driven past lots of lovely sites over the years but you don't really think about caravan or camper sites when you don't have one. Grin

We like the Moray coast Hopeman Bay, Nairn, Findhorn and up to the black isle

Scianel · 23/05/2022 15:25

The campsite at Applecross. It's a magical place.

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 23/05/2022 15:41

@Scottishskifun I think DH has distant relatives in Nairn so we could look them up if we did that route.

@Scianel my old work colleague used to rave about Applecross. I can't quite believe I still haven't visited so that's definitely going on my list.

Thank you for all the suggestions. My map is filling up nicely Grin

Camusdarach, not far to the Harry Potter train viaduct. Gets booked up well in advance though.

Big Sands at Gairloch
