Hi. DD has decided very late apparently that she wants to go to school prom. I am struggling to find shops to take her to. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas. She wants a dress that would also do for formal events after school days are over so nothing too Cinderella. Any recommendations welcome

We went to Frasers, Buchanan St. they have an occasion dress section. I found this online so I imagine they have more similar in store.

arabelladresses.com/
or John Lewis
The Red Cross charity shop in Stockbridge has a dedicated bridal section so they might have bridesmaid / prom type dresses (I've never actually looked in it because I've never needed one!)

You might get something in monsoon.

David's Bridal (not just though) Braehead has a really good selection of prom dresses ranging from from full skirted backless glitter to very simple styles.

DD went to Pink Bear in Edinburgh. She wanted something for a formal (not Prom) that was very understated and they had a good range to choose from.

Maral in Battlefield. Nice independent shop with a range of non-princessy styles.

Catherine’s of Partick might take pity on you if you phone them?

Cuckoo in Cathcart

I saw some nice dresses (along the same lines as the pic Lizzie posted) in Quiz today.

I wouldn’t recommend Catherine’s of Partick

Fine if you want glitz and glamour but they had NOTHING understated and the prices are £££. Pushy sales too. First question we were asked was “How much are you spending”. I felt it was a bit crass. I understand that they might not want to show things outwith your budget but it left a sour taste in my mouth. We were prepared to spend a hefty amount too but it all left me feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Charity shops in rich areas. DD got a lovely Karen Millen dress not unlike the one @LizzieMacQueen showed. Women felt sorry for her and she got it for £8.99. She has worn to a uni Christmas ball too.

I second avoiding Catherine’s of Patrick. Was looking for a very smart dress and the assistant asked me to pick a few dresses from the shelf to try on. Told me to hurry up as I was taking too long. Thought the shop was slightly tatty and definitely overpriced.
I’d suggest the outlet shops in Livingston and there’s always TK Maxx. Quiz are good online if you can’t make it to Buchanan Galleries also ASOS online

I’d 100% second the Arabella Dresses recommendation.
