Hello Mums!

We are new to Scotland infact new to UK and would appreciate any info on the Mary Erskine School.

My DD has been offered a place in S1 after the entrance exam. How are the school results. Is it academic oriented or into sports or a bit of both. How are the teaching staff, are the girls friendly. Any info on this would be very helpful !!

Thanks in Advance!!

Hi,
My dd attended senior school there. She was very happy. Her year were exceptionally able and produced excellent results prior to the pandemic. My dd excelled academically and made lovely friends. They are all at uni now but meet up regularly.
My dd is currently studying Maths at university which she loves. Her friends have gone on to study a good mix of Arts and stem subjects. She always felt she was able to play to her strengths which were STEM subjects.
They picked up her dyslexia which had been missed at primary and although she required minimal support they were helpful.
Dd patricipated in and enjoyed some of the extra curriculars on offer.
Every childs experience will be different but ours was very positive. Hope that helps.

My DD is currently a pupil. I haven’t been impressed with the way management dealt with the pandemic and the current head, in my opinion, is pretty useless. She is retiring very soon so hopefully her replacement will be better.

The teaching staff are great- and despite my reservations about leadership at the school, DD’s exam results have been excellent so no criticisms there.

I feel there is a too heavy emphasis on sport, esp hockey. Non sporty girls tend to be marginalised and there is a real emphasis on sporting “glory”.
