We've only ever bought in Edinburgh, not sold, and our experience wasn't great with the legal firms so wouldn't go back to them.
We now want to sell our flat (nothing special or complicated, just a 2 bed on the west side worth about £100k, no mortgage on it, no chain) and doing some digging around the Mumsnet forum archive provides some real horror stories of firms to avoid! (They're all quite old and I appreciate firms can change though)
On our blacklist so far:
VMH
Taits
Ones we're going to look into:
McQueen Legal
Deans
Beveridge & Kellas
Umega
Hastings Legal (covers south west scotland, have a personal recommendation for them)
We don't neccesarily want the cheapest option, we just want a firm that uses ESPC, and that deals with digital communications well and responds profesionally and competently (you'd think that's not too much to ask, wouldn't you, but I've found it's not actually that normal!). We have a reasonable expectation of speed and don't expect emails to be replied to within a few hours, but prior experiences of basic competency stuff just not being done well (e.g. wrong names on documentation, incorrect addresses not spotted then dealt with snottily when we pointed it out) has made me worried about appointing a legal firm!
Really not looking forward to the process.
Can folk advise with recommendations or horror stories within the last couple of years....?
Thanks.
