Looking for a fancy restaurant in Edinburgh with good service/food for me and dh. We are staying in the Scotsman in early February.

Thanks very much

The Table is absolutely outstanding, but need to book well in advance.

The Palmerston
Bon Vivant
Yamato for Japanese food

This is one of my favourite restaurants - it's French.

It is just above the station in Jeffrey Street, so not far from the Scotsman.

Gaucho if you like steak!

L'Escargot Bleu in Broughton Street is a lovely French restaurant. Not fancy but food is terrific and totally authentic.

We went to Michael and Hanam's last weekend. Both of them were lovely and reasonably priced.

I don't rate the Dome at all and I've had mixed experiences at the Witchery.

(I live in Edinburgh)

It depends what you like but I like l'Escargot Bleu and Fhior on Broughton Street.

The Outsider on George IV Bridge is very good although not particularly fancy -- I like it as a lunch place.

It's a bit of a stretch to get there it's towards Leith but The Little Chartroom on Bennington Road is excellent.

If you want proper top-end, Number One at the Balmoral is really good.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 08/02/2022 12:18

Bonnington Road Hmm for The Little Chartroom

Bideshi · 08/02/2022 12:21

Not the Witchery. It's a rip-off aimed at American tourists (though even my American DIL sussed it for what it is). The food's elaborate but not that good and it's stupidly expensive

Bideshi · 08/02/2022 12:22

Agree with l'Escargot Bleu

Can I please dive on and slightly derail? We're heading to Edinburgh next week for half term, we'd like to celebrate Chinese New Year belatedly, while all your brilliant collective brains are in One place could I ask for any family friendly recommendations? And OP I hope you have a wonderful evening wherever you go.

Carrottop73 · 08/02/2022 12:31

Rendezvous in the West end if you are looking for Chinese food and lovely atmosphere.

Crowdfundingforcake · 08/02/2022 12:37

Second The Little Chartroom and Rhubarb at Prestonfield. Number One at the Balmoral is very good.

We had a lovely meal at David Bann on Sunday - first time we'd been there. It's vegetarian though so not if you're looking for steak. Committed carnivore DH was a bit sceptical but really enjoyed it.

Wouldn't go to the Witchery if you paid me - very much style over substance, overpriced, crap food, over expensive wine list.

Karen's unicorn is meant to be excellent I've not been so not sure of child friendliness.
