Women in STEM in Glasgow?

A bit of a cheeky request but I was wondering if any of you living/working in Glasgow work in the field of STEM and would perhaps in interested in giving a wee talk to some local schools about your career for international women's Day?

If you don’t get any joy here you can request a STEM ambassador via this organisation. Good luck!

Bumping for you

Aw good luck with this - sounds fab. Feels like there are a lot of STEM women on Scotsnet although not 100% sure if Glasgow based. Hopeful bump for you.

Thanks everyone hopefully someone is up for it 🤞🏻. Thanks @woodstockj I've looked into the STEM ambassadors which will help.with some schools.

Whereabouts, I am a STEM ambassador but with covid my PVG has lapsed. However if you add a request to the STEM ambassador sites, people can pick it up. Are you wanting someone to do a specific talk or a general careers talk.

Thanks for responding @ElizaB22 Im actually organising this for across the city. The plan is to have a list of people interested, when they can make it, what their role is and then have schools arrange a visit. For women's Day we're looking for a sort of careers talk - pretty much highlighting new STEM avenues beyond what they would maybe know about and also the fact that successful women are in these roles - it's not just men.

I'm in touch with the STEM ambassadors scheme and hopefully sorting some through that 🤞🏻

Can you private message me an email address. I'm not sure if there's anyone in the Glasgow office but I can make enquiries. We might not get permission to go into schools due to Covid at the moment though as there's a billion hoops to jump through for outside site visits!

Invisimamma · 21/01/2022 19:03

Glasgow Science Centre used to do this kind of thing.

You could also film interviews with people and use that at multiple schools or live cast from zoom/teams and multiple schools could join. I am not in Glasgow but our LA is still not currently allowing visitors into schools.

StarryEyeSurprise · 21/01/2022 19:53

I would love to know how you got into this role as it would be right up my street!

Onebabyandamadcat · 22/01/2022 18:42

Thanks everyone I've got a few people lined up was just looking to see if there was anyone else.

@staryeyesurprise I'm a primary teacher but moved into head office after being the STEM lead in my school for a few years.
