Is this a bad idea?

I understand Nicola is announcing Christmas restrictions today- limits on household mixing and extension vaccine passports, possible table service in restaurants. I am double vaccinated, and would have had my booster by then. My husband is triple vaccinated.

Is it likely they would force hotels to close?

Its either Edinburgh or Glasgow, not both!

We will find out today! At the moment pretty much everything is open but you have to wear masks. As a general rule Scotland has slightly stricter rules than England, but not hugely so. So if nothing is happening down south I can't see us shutting everything.

I think the greatest uncertainty is how bad Omicron will hit nhs. If it's really bad we will get more restrictions in the coming days.

@Callisto1 thank you, actually its 29 Dec to 2 Jan due to the weekend/new year's!

Also curious, did they close hotels the last time? In england, hotels were only open to essential/nhs staff.

I was thinking maybe even if there was a 'lockdown', it might be quite nice to stay at a hotel and order delivery and just walk around the city. Still be a nice change from walking around my area in London.

Yes they closed them same as England. I think they were also slower to open them up and there were extra rules about catering and shared facilities. Not sure how it was in England.

I would be really surprised if hotels were closed over new year. Saying that parties and events could be axed or restricted.

Are you driving or taking the train?

onlychildhamster · 14/12/2021 11:43

@Callisto1 Train! We don't drive.

I'd reckon that's likely to cause more problems than the hotels. If they go back to distancing and reservations it might be chaos.
