What's happening with second jabs for kids?

MLMshouldbeillegal · 12/12/2021 20:08

I have three teenagers.

My 13 and 16 year old have had one each.

My 18 year old has had two.

All the char is about boosters and whatever which is fine, and my oldest will go for his booster when he's called. But what about the other two? I think my 16 year old should be eligible for her second now? But do you think I can find ANY information online among the tsunami of booster information?

Or is it that boosting us oldies is more important ?

In Lothian 16 &17 yr olds can book or go to drop in for 2nd dose as long as it's 12 week gap.
Sorry don't know about younger as that doesn't affect us.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/12/2021 21:10

It's gone very quiet on the 2nd jabs for 12 - 15. I think with all the omicron stuff the focus is squarely on the booster campaign and they'll get on with the 12-15s in the new year sometime. I think you should be able to get a 2nd jab for a 16 year old though.

Cheerychirpy · 12/12/2021 22:19

They were originally only giving one dose to 12-15 year olds unless they had a vulnerability. Has this changed?

dementedpixie · 12/12/2021 22:48

Yes it changed and that age group can now get 2 doses

dementedpixie · 12/12/2021 22:50

Nhs inform hasn't given further info yet;

Second doses

Children and young people aged 12 to 17 years will be offered a second dose of the vaccine from 8 to 12 weeks after the first dose.

If you're aged 16 or 17 years you can receive your second dose by:

booking your appointment online
phoning the national vaccination helpline on 0800 030 8013 (open 8am to 8pm, 7 days per week)
attending adrop-in clinic

You should check your local health board's website or social media to see ifdrop-in clinicsare available.

More information about second doses for children and young people aged 12 to 15 years will be available soon.

I called and booked my 17 year old in for 2nd dose. He got appointment no problem. I don't think you can book younger ones for 2nd doses yet.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 13/12/2021 07:48

I'll have to call up today and try to get her booked in for her second. Very few places here are doing walk-ins.

16+ can get a 2nd wherever they are on offer. 12-15s have to wait a bit longer. I know this because I had to phone the vaccine helpline for my 15yr old who lives with a vulnerable family member. There will be an announcement when 2nd doses are open to that age group. They were expecting it to be fairly soon but now attention has moved to boosters it might still be a few weeks.

I got my booster yesterday and there was a big sign up saying 2nd doses not yet available for 12-15s.

Did she get a letter with her appointment? Her unique user name should be on it and you can log in and look for appointments online. If she doesn't have a letter you can recover the user name if you have the date of her first vaccine
dementedpixie · 13/12/2021 08:06

vacs.nhs.scot/csp?id=csm_login to book appointments

vacs.nhs.scot/csp?id=recover_username recover user name

MLMshouldbeillegal · 13/12/2021 08:10

I didn't know there was a recover user name function - she has "lost" her blue letter..

I had to use it to get ds's user name as his wasn't on the letter (maybe because he was under 16?)
And used it to get dds as she booked hers through the portal and only got a text with her appointment

MLMshouldbeillegal · 13/12/2021 08:19

Haven't managed to recover her user name online on hold now for the helpline. They'll be delighted.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 13/12/2021 14:18

Yes we were being told the same - drop ins for over 40s only. I have an appointment made for her now anyway.
