Just looking for some suggestions. I have a few days off with my boys late October and we are looking at either Edinburgh or Glasgow for 2 nights.
I've taken them to Edinburgh before (probably 4 years ago) but never Glasgow.
I don't know what there is to do in Glasgow to be able to compare... Nor if there is new things in Edinburgh to consider.

We would be on the train so any suggestions in either city would be great including places to eat.

The big chute (slide) in XCIte (Soar) at Braehead? There’s also bowling, a trampoline place, amusements & plenty of eateries there.
The Riverside museum?
The Kelvingrove museum?

Edinburgh

Edinburgh certainly has more “attractions”.

Glasgow has a very good science centre, a great general museum (Kelvingrove) and a great transport museum (riverside) with a tall ship you can go on.

TrivialSoul · 25/09/2021 17:51

Glasgow has the science centre. All Glasgow museums are free so you have kelvingrove, the Riverside museum, people's Palace. They do an open top bus tour as well I think. Definitely plenty to see and do in Glasgow, totally different vibe from Edinburgh I'd say.

The transport museum? here there’s a ship alongside it too.

There’s a hop on hop off tourist bus that visits the main attractions here

If it’s a nice day head to the Botanic Gardens with some peanuts for the squirrels here there are nearby cafes or a Waitrose for an impromptu picnic. You also aren’t far from Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum here

WeeMadArthur · 25/09/2021 17:55

There’s also Tam Shepherds joke shop, a great old shop if you love magic or just practical jokes here

Glasgow:
Trampoline park
Science Centre
Kelvingrove Museum
Hampden Stadium tour (if they are into football)
Time Capsule (water park) if you don't mind getting public transport if you're not driving.
Ghost tour
Riverside (transport) museum and The Tall Ship
Scotland Street School Museum
Pollok Park
Blair Drummond Safari Park (again if not driving you'll need to get public transport)

Edinburgh -

You'll probably know these but
Our Dynamic Earth
Camera Obscura
The Edinburgh Dungeon
Arthur's Seat
National museum
Edinburgh zoo
Castle

Glasgow- Loads for children to see and do. Entry is free to public museums.

Seeing as you only have 2 days, you could buy an all day underground ticket and explore some of the west end of the city. These 3 stations are all beside each other and there are several things to do nearby.

Hillhead Station
Byres Road and Ashton Lane - lots of cafes and restaurants and Corollas Ice Cream is good.

Botanic Gardens- Glasshouse and Nature Trails to take. Good if your DC like doing nature walks and spotting things.

The Huntarian Museum at Glasgow Uni could be worth a trip if your DC are interested in Natural History.

Kelvinhall Station

Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museum. Has lots of things designed with children in mind. Good if your children like dinosaurs and mini beasts.

Orlando Cafe on Argyle street across the road- good for ice cream and chips.

Large playground and skate park a short walk away in Kelvingrove Park.

Partick Station

Riverside Museum and Tall Ship- worth a trip if your DC are interested in transport ( old cars, bikes etc) and boats.

If you wanted to go to the Science Center, you can take a different train to the ‘Exhibition Center’ stop. Science Center has an entry fee but is worth a visit if you have time. It’s very interactive.
