Can GP help with getting a discount for gym membership?

Due to underlying health issues I am currently off sick with work and could really do with some rehabilitation. Physio have suggested I do some strength training in the gym but I just cannot afford membership. I have applied for PIP which I see may enable me to get a discount. Can the GP help with this at all?

Yes it's called the gym referral scheme.
In my area the physio can refer you so ask them

Which council are you in? Some need GP/physio referral others can be any health professional. Costs vary. Some also do other activities such as MH walks or outdoor activities. It's a great scheme and you often get supervised gym sessions too.

Might be worth checking with your Physio if anything else or try your local council leisure centre for options or look at if you are eligible for the access to midlothian card

My physio referred me to Edinburgh Leisure after I gave up my David Lloyd membership. She also gave instructions for the gym induction programme to ensure I got what was right for me.

Thanks both
