Is Boots still open or is it just the one in St James Centre now?

Not sure about princes st but there is one on bottom floor of st James

Rhannion · 04/08/2021 21:58

Still open, Superdrug is also still there.

Ohdeariedear · 04/08/2021 22:44

Not sure. I went along on the bus the other weeks and it felt like there was nothing of substance between Shandwick Place and Primark. It all looked terribly sad.

ssd · 04/08/2021 22:45

Is there anything at jenners now?

Ohdeariedear · 04/08/2021 23:13

@ssd no, it’s all shut. 😢

Zara and next have moved into the new centre. Boots is still there.

Waterstones is still open near the west end and one or two smallish shops. River Island is still open but it may be closing as there’s a large RI in St James Centre. It’s all quite depressing, I miss the pre Covid shopping experience though St James Centre is excellent.

I was in Edinburgh the other week. Princes St was grim on the shopping side. Lots still boarded up and the gardens side felt a wee bit dodgy ( early evening) . No tourists or commuters just a few open air drinkers.

This is so sad. I grew up in Edinburgh and in the 80s and early 90s Princes Street was buzzing and just a lovely street. I would ask if the council has any sort of plan.... but clearly not.

There's just not the demand for the big Littlewoods/BHS/Debenhams/Jenners stores which dominated the street any more.

scaffoldingtheworld · 05/08/2021 10:00

Thanks. I just need a few bits but didn't want to go to St James.

Yea I agree PS is dire now. Not how it was and I don't think it will ever come back. I suspect in a few years it will all be hotels and or offices.

My friend works for the council and says they are relaxing street pavement licensing laws for PS in the hope that bars and restaurants will open up. Unfortunately Edinburgh's climate is not hugely conducive to an outdoor cafe vibe so I'm not sure how it will go, but hopefully better than the depressing mush mash of empty and bargain shops there is now.

Rhannion · 05/08/2021 20:45

It will end up full of pubs and more fast food crap. The city is a dump at the moment with all the dog shit, road works, so called spaces for people, tram works , litter, graffiti and general mess.

Rhannion · 05/08/2021 20:45

Edinburgh council are appalling
