Decent hotel with or close to an activity?

This is for October.

Any suggestions for a decent hotel that has activities or something close by to occupy DS who is 13? I thought about Crieff Hydro but wonder if you can suggest anything else? We’ve done Aviemore loads of times.

I’ve seen a hotel in Nairn that has access to boat trips for dolphins etc. not much else. I don’t think we can face more walking and nothing else!

What about a city break? There's loads to do in Edinburgh (unless you already live there?)

Lived there but actually potentially not a bad idea to do all the touristy stuff. Haven’t lived there since before DS was born.

The Galloway Activity centre is good but not hotel accommodation and maybe not for October, mainly watersports .

Auchrannie is really fantastic, my top favourite!

Thanks. I’ll look at it. Just in case we manage a few days away over the summer.

There's outdoor things around Edinburgh too - the dry ski slope and "tubing" at Hillend, stand up paddle boarding or kayaking on the canal, there's a company does guided bike tours, you could walk the water of leith or some of the Edinburgh hills......and as you say, loads of indoor things if the weather isn't so great!

Not exactly a hotel sorry, but they have glamping type accommodation (it’s not super fancy) or camping and their white water rafting is amazing. We did it as a family last year and we all loved it, highlight of the year.

Alternatively lots of hotels in St.Andrews and blown away do surf lessons, paddle boarding, kayaking etc on the beach.

The Loch Ken holiday park is nice and just along from the Galloway Activity Centre, which is great fun. They do sailing courses which are really good for youngsters. There’s also lots of mountain biking around those parts if you’re so minded.

We've done Crieff Hydro every year from birth to about 11 yrs old. My kids loved their Big Country kids club. For older kids the horses riding and tree/zip activities are great. More affordable activities than other hotels but not been since Dec 2019 so not sure what it's like post covid.

St Andrews Bay hotel used to be good when mine were little. Activities good; access to at Andrews lovely beaches etc plus check if the country park is open again.
