Moving from England to North Berwick - Primary School Spaces?

Hello everyone, looking for some advice/reassurance. Hoping to relocate from London to North Berwick (from Edinburgh originally so know the area). My eldest daughter is currently in P1 in England and I didn’t realise that if you move into a school catchment it doesnt mean you will get a space at the local school. Does anyone know if the primary school (Law) in North Berwick is over subscribed and what my chances would be to get her in P2 after summer? I’ve emailed the school but unless I have actually bought a house they can’t give me info. Does anyone have info on the school? Many Thanks

I’m afraid I don’t know anything about capacity in North Berwick, but P1 is capped at 25 and this increases to 30 for P2 so there may well be additional spaces available and if in catchment you would be top of the list for a space.

Hello, I live in East Lothian (but not North Berwick so sorry no specific info about that school) and I’d email the council to ask - [email protected]. The school accepted a copy of the signed missives as proof of address when we applied for my eldest’s school place so the place was confirmed early. Usually there would be spaces for in-catchment kids and class numbers increase for P2 as the PP has said above.

Thank you both for the info. Good news the class sizes, I will contact the council too xx

Some time in February I think Edinburgh council publishes info which schools have spaces available for out of catchment requests. I assume North Berwick might have a similar system and you could get an idea of where there is space. There is also roll projections, but not sure how useful that really is in your case.

We move to NB in April, we have a house, just not been able to move due to COVID and my role in A&E.
My boys will go to nursery and P2 at the beginning of May and the school have been amazing. So reassuring. There is plenty of space for my 7 year old in P2, its a 3 or 4 form entry I think. I am being encouraged to apply for a nursery place for my youngest so he makes friends before starting in P1 and not been advised there won't be a space.
Once you get your house I am fairly sure there will not be a problem, the school are incredibly supportive.

Hi OP, would you mind updating this thread on how you get on abs how you find the school? Wombat’s experience is reassuring. We’re looking to make a similar move soon. Thanks.

Oh wow thanks both! We are in England and advised to sell our house here first, with stamp duty stop etc I am not sure we will be moving until nearer end of year! I did find some info from the council website that they keep 6 spaces per year group for people moving into catchment at the school. Looks to be more space than the popular Edinburgh schools at least!!

@Netball45 did you make the move in the end? How have you found the school if so? Thanks
