Hello,

I'm just wondering if anyone in Edinburgh would be up for long walks, maybe in the Pentlands? I'm a bit scared to go on my own in case I get lost.

I've also felt very scared in the city lately, but the hills mean freedom and long walks.

Look online for Scottish Ramblers or [local area] guided walks, or Paths For All etc.

Please don't make arrangements to meet a random from the internet. As always, not everyone is who they say they are.

Have you joined the Scottish Womens Walking Group on FB? You might find someone that way (allowing for the randoms off the internet advice above...).

Yip, Scottish Women's walking group is great. There is normally a group who go up the Pentlands.
They aren't doing group meet ups at the moment but I think you may be able to ask about one person to go out for a walk, although I can't be sure about that.

Oh, that group sounds fun.

Last time I was in Edinburgh I only lingered on the foothills of Arthur's Seat because I was a bit scared of going alone. Would be great to find safe fellow walkers.

I'd go with you if I could, OP - sadly lockdown-stuck south of the border.

SWWG is good even from the point of view of advice - e.g. I have no intention of going walking in the Pentlands any time soon but I know that there have been issues with cattle recently at a specific point and there's also a section of path due to be closed off for two weeks due to construction work. The joys of random internet information!
Think you can arrange to go for a walk with 1 other person, just not larger group walks at the moment (and obv that may change in some areas when the new tiers come in).

Thank you guys. Scottish Women Walker's Group seems great.

Your post could be written by me. I'm new to the city and want to walk too. I've joined a group called Edinburgh Young Walkers - so far it's been great.

Ah, thank you Bolero. They sound good.

I've actually become really frightened of roads and traffic lately, which is linked to PTSD and I'm getting treated for, but it means I feel like a prisoner in the city. In the hills I can feel free and not too frightened.
