Where to live?

We need to find somewhere to live and I within commuting distance to Edinburgh. What would be your top three (non city) areas?

Honestly even if renting is a waste of money, buying a house in the wrong place is worse! Imagine having to move after just 1 year.
I would really think about the commute and talk to someone who knows the route. Traffic before Covid was worse around 5ish for us rather than 8ish in the mornings. Will depend where you go and might be different now.
