Has anyone booked a holiday for September weekend?

And if so, are you still going? Curious as to what people are doing, especially if a travel ban ends up coming into force next week

I don't think they'll do it for September weekend, they'll wait and do it for October holidays for more impact. Not everywhere has September weekend, may even just be west coast? I'm booked for October for a few days and unless the place is shut I will be going. Currently same low level as where I am, self catering, activities will be walking in countyside, will be driving door to door - back roads if necessary.

Lidlfix · 20/09/2020 14:30

I will be so sad if my Oct break plans fall through. Self catering for 3 nights in an area of Scotland which has had low rates throughout whilst I also live in an area which has had fairly low rates too. Walks on the beach were my plans so not exactly licking the bar in Zante.

We don't have a September weekend anymore for schools in my area haven't for a long time. Some of the kids look tired already and there's still 3 weeks to go.

Invisimamma · 20/09/2020 15:08

We have plans for October. Just self catering where we plan to do lots of walks and board games, minimum contract with others. Will be gutted if we can't got after everything else we have cancelled this year.

My eldest ds is currently isolating because there was a covid case at in his childcare bubble. He is utterly miserable again 😔, he was so much brighter and happier being back at school. Dreading them closing again. The wfh juggle is also so difficult with dc here.

Groovee · 20/09/2020 20:06

Currently on mine (Edinburgh) we booked a hot tub lodge. Have worn masks when out and socially distanced. It's been much needed before dd goes back to uni,

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 20/09/2020 20:09

I’m going to be absolutely gutted if it’s brought in for October holidays. I have a cottage booked to visit my sister and baby neice who I haven’t seen since before Christmas and it’s now looking unlikely I’ll get to see her? Even though I’ve worked throughout in community nursing, stuck to the rules etc. I really needed this for my mental health to be honest

waitforitwaitforit · 20/09/2020 21:02

We're supposed to be going up North for the October week but I've pretty much resigned myself to it not happening. I'm absolutely devastated. We didn't get a holiday of any description in the summer and I could really do with a break.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 20/09/2020 21:09

How is this even going to work though? All the LAs have different holiday lengths? We get 2 weeks but some only get 1?

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/09/2020 21:10

I know wait we had our summer hols in June last year and didn't get away at all apart from 1 night dropping DS2 back at Uni a couple of weeks ago and that wasn't really a holiday. I'm working from home and just want a change of scenery.

dancemom · 20/09/2020 21:42

Crieff Hydro for us so hoping we can still go

ElizaB22 · 20/09/2020 21:51

We are meant to be heading to a lodge on Thursday night

Sturmundcalm · 20/09/2020 22:51

we've booked 2 nights in a premier inn (the glamour!) for the start of the october holidays but I'm kind of expecting that it won't be happening... we're lucky in a way cause we didn't go away last summer and did our bigger holiday over christmas/NY but I hate not having anything to look forward to.

Ginger1982 · 20/09/2020 23:37

We're going away on the September weekend Monday next week. I hope we can still go.

InTheCludgie · 21/09/2020 07:33

Thanks for the replies! DH and I had talked about going to Alton Towers with the kids a while back, but he got put on nightshift so I will be spending this school holiday trying to keep the kids quiet so he can sleep. Not easy as we can't visit anyone, go to a soft play etc so am hoping for dry weather for the park. Failing that, it'll likely be extra screen time as a last resort Sad

What's the September weekend?

Invisimamma · 21/09/2020 10:10

@misssmiley it's long the weekend Scottish schools are off in September. Although not all local authorities have it anymore and they're not all on the same weekend. But it's still refered to as 'the September weekend.'

Jodri · 21/09/2020 10:19

This is all new to me too!
I’ve never experienced September weekend for my dc when they were at school and I never had it at any of my Scottish schools I attended in 1980/90s either. First break we had was two weeks in October, picking tatties and earning money (god I hated it!).
I feel regional differences in Scotland are quite vast at times.

Florencenotflo · 21/09/2020 10:26

We've got a day booked at Alton Towers the week of 5th October. We were combining it with a visit up north to DH's family as we haven't seen them in so long. This has already been rearranged once as we were booked to go in April.

I'm not convinced we'll be able to go. The tickets for AT are booked and the hotel for up North but I haven't even booked a hotel near AT yet just in case. I'll be gutted if it doesn't happen, DH's family haven't even met dd2 yet.

Callisto1 · 21/09/2020 12:16

Our September holiday is this weekend and we're chilling at home, apart from seeing some friends while we still can.

I have a feeling our week in October will be sitting at home without seeing anyone 😞
We've supposed to have gone to visit family in the south of England, but it's looking increasingly less likely. The kids haven't seen their grandparents since Christmas. It's all very sad.

waitforitwaitforit · 21/09/2020 14:19

It is sad. I feel I've been holding back tears for the past couple of days. Things were just getting back to normal and now we're back to shite again. There was an element of 'novelty' to it the first time round, but even that's gone now. Plus schools will remain open, so I'll still be going to work, just with nothing fun to look forward to when work's over.

Bit of a pity party going on around here today

namechangeinamillion · 21/09/2020 14:45

We're off to our caravan in Millport 🐊

Lidlfix · 21/09/2020 15:11

Waitforit I'll join your pity party. Could not sleep last night churning it all over. Work but don't mix with colleagues, when we've never needed each more. Double and triple periods when you can't do group work or creative tasks. Kids who are anxious that exams will be cancelled, kids who are anxious that they won't.

Don't see anyone apart from your household but share a tiny, poorly ventilated room with 30 families worth of young adults.

My DF will return to shielding but this time the burden will fall totally on my WFM Dsis as I will be In school. I will see him through a window in winter.

I am lucky my job is safe but DDs' definitely not . I fret about DD3 having to lock down with flat mates she's just met . DD4's pals didn't stick to guidelines last time and it really upset her. But at least she'll see them at school.

russetred · 21/09/2020 22:49

We've just come back today from our September weekend, was lovely to get away in the camper. Have a booking for Oct half term near Aviemore but suspect it's looking unlikely, sadly. We've managed 3 trips between July - Sept though so I'm feeling pretty grateful for that.

DumplingsAndStew · 22/09/2020 10:53

When is September weekend?

We have a few days booked away from 5th October and will be gutted to have to cancel again as this was rescheduled from April and DC so desperately need a change of scene.

When does everyone's tattie holidays start?

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 11:46

My Dc no longer in school but think ours were meant to be one week starting on the 12th (hence I booked the w/b 19th off). I think they got an extra week added because they went back a week early so w/b 19th is also now school holiday - I think - that's Stirlingshire.

we are due to go for a few days on our week off but as Unis are back, it's no longer a full family thing.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 11:46

I think it's this weekend for Glasgow for September weekend. We don't have one in Stirling.
