So who knows where the new head of MI5 went to school?!

Ken McCallum just been appointed new Head of MI5 and various reports say he grew up in Glasgow and has a degree in Maths from Glasgow University. Has worked for the firm for 25 years allegedly but not sure of his exact age. Would love to know where he went to school but can only find mention of the fact that he attended a ‘state’ school.

Just wondering if anyone on MN knows anything about his Glasgow years. And I wonder if they’ll zap this thread if too much info is shared?!! You ain’t seen me, right?

Why do you want to know?

007inreverse · 31/03/2020 10:41

Just curious especially as he attended a state school (allegedly). Fascinated that he’s not an Oxbridge graduate or the son of a Viscount.

What's his year of birth?

prettybird · 31/03/2020 17:23

Born in 1975 according to Wikipedia.

LizzieMacQueen · 31/03/2020 17:41

Too young for me to know him then (also did Maths, different university).

GlassOfProsecco · 31/03/2020 19:49

There's (understandably) a lot of information about him out there.

Google has very little to say.

Reginabambina · 31/03/2020 19:52

They don’t pay enough these days for him to be an oxbridge graduate or the son of a viscount.

user1487194234 · 31/03/2020 20:51

Think he is from West end

007inreverse · 01/04/2020 15:56

I would imagine that any state school he went to would be shouting from the rooftops that he attended their school. I’d be disappointed if it was Jordanhill because I think it’s a bit of a ‘pretend’ state school.

I'd imagine it's being kept quiet for security reasons to protect his family.

I0NA · 03/04/2020 19:20

I agree, anyone who did know him from school or uni would be unlikely to post that info here.

babysnowman · 03/04/2020 19:25

I would have guessed Jordanhill too

Irgla · 10/09/2021 13:27

He WAS at a Glasgow state school. I know because my husband taught him.
He got a first in maths and computer science at Glasgow.
There’s a reason there’s not much info about him, which is why I won’t say any more. @007inreverse @prettybird@Reginabambina@babysnowman@GlassOfProsecco@LizzieMacQueen@user1487194234@I0NA

First thoughts - he's just a wain, second though - god I'm getting old!

ClaudiaNaughton · 10/09/2021 18:56

Another vote for Jordanhill

YellowClouds · 10/09/2021 22:12

If he grew up in Broomhill I'd imagine it's a school local to there

ClaudiaNaughton · 11/09/2021 13:24

Well, wherever, the boy done well.

Ekofisk · 11/09/2021 23:00

A friend was mentored by Elizabeth Manningham-Buller.

But I was told that’s not her real name.

Rae36 · 16/09/2021 20:36

He's the same age as me. Wonder if he went to my old school? I'm away to google what he looks like
