The payment is for low income families with a child born between 1 March 2014 and 28 February 2015, who would normally be due to start Primary One this August.
It is part of the Best Start Grant package, and applications for the £250 payment opened on Monday 3 June.

Social Security Scotland have announced that the new Scottish Child Payment - £10 a week per eligible child (under 16) - will be fully rolled out by 2022. To facilitate this the introduction of Carers Allowance from SSS will now be delayed to early 2022, while Disability Assistance for Older People will now be introduced in 2021. These changes will not affect the introduction of Disability Assistance for Working Age People (the replacement for PIP) however, this remains on track to be introduced early in 2021.
It's now expected that the majority of existing benefits cases will be completely transferred over from the DWP to SSS by 2024, with the entire transfer of welfare to the devolved agency completed by 2025.
