Holiday at Campsie Glen this summer

We have a week booked at Campsie Glen near Fintry at the end of August. We used to visit Scotland a lot when I was little as my dad is from Falkirk but never got to be proper tourists because for him it was just going home and catching up with people, so I really really want the full tourist experience with my dc. Ds2 is obsessed with Scottish history- other than the places I've already mentioned where should we go? DH is happy to drive pretty much anywhere. Imagine I'd never been to Scotland before and knew little about it. What's the one place/experience you would say is a must do? (Other than the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle which is pretty much all ds2 has talked about since I booked the sodding holiday.)

Have just realised I did not mention most of the places we are already hoping to visit- Linlithgow because I remember it being so beautiful when I was a kid, Blair Drummond Safari Park because ds3 will love it, the Ibrox tour because homage must be paid..

Places in the vicinity: The Falkirk Wheel, the kelpies, Doune castle, Dollar Glen, The steamer boat at Loch Katrine, Bannockburn heritage thingy - I think you akready have a lot on your list to be honest as you need some time just to chill out and enjoy things.

I know I know, I really wish I'd booked two weeks not one! If this holiday goes well we will very likely go back much more often, (not least as when we went to St Andrew's for my dad's birthday celebrations a few years ago I almost talked dh into moving to Scotland and that's still my long term hope). I might take Blair Drummond off the list tbh, I remember it as brilliant but there is a safari park near where we live now so it would be a bit daft to spend a day on it when there is so much more I would like to see. Thank you :)

I'd maybe group it. Blairdrummond really needs best part of a day but could pop into Doune too. Stirling Castle/wallace mnument and maybe Bannockburn would fill another. Linlithgow with Kelpies/Falkirk wheel for another. I don't know Glasgow well but link in stuff there with the ibrox trip as day 4. Maybe a countryside day up to the trossachs and loch katrine with a picnic and hire bikes if weather permits. That's 5 full days, your day of arrival and pack up and that's pretty much a week and you've just seen one wee corner...lol

Don't forget Rob Roy heritage things (you can visit his grave at Balquidder) the Trossachs, all round that area is Rob Roy country.

The David Stirling Statue on the road between the Keir roundabout and Doune is an atmospheric wee stop (just be a pit stop for a few mins if passing)

Edinburgh for one full day at the fringe. Expect it to be busy and I'd suggest you park and ride. Look up kids stuff to do plus there's always street theatre up the Royal Mile. In fact an evening at the Military Tattoo if you can get tickets.

When it gets too much you can pop into the Natural History museum on Chambers street.

Could visit the Riverside Museum on the same day as the Ibrox Tour. It’s on the other side of the Clyde from Ibrox.

Visitor centre at Bannockburn is great, Dunfermline Abbey for Robert the Bruce resting place.

Thank you all! I am going to sit down with dh this weekend and make a plan, Bannockburn sounds ace. I don't know if I can face Edinburgh in August with the dc but everything else you've mentioned would be brilliant.
