We can move anywhere - help!

Currently in the Midlands but wanting to move North. Children all grown up and independent so schools not an issue (one DD lives in Scotland). We love the beauty of the West coast, but not the rain, so probably somewhere on the Eastern half of the country would suit us best. Sunny is more important than warm if that makes sense. We'd like to be able to reach a village easily, great views, lovely countryside and to be not too far from a town with good facilities and plenty going on. All ideas very gratefully received!

You want West Linton.

That's my dream place.

We were looking at a place there, but have two very small children and it was not practical for commuting either.

Hi Rioting, I'm so sorry for your losses.

As someone who lives near and works in Inverness I'd highly recommend it - amazing views from the more suburban parts (Culloden, Westhill, Milton of Leys) and the airport is a 15 minute drive from any of those. If you're looking for a more rural place the house Nouser linked to is on the "quieter" side of Loch Ness so you wouldn't be quite so troubled by tourists. It's beautiful there too!

NE Fife or Perthshire.

I'd also suggest the Black Isle. Although north of Inverness, the climate is more benign than you'd expect. It gets visitors but not too touristy. Check out Cromarty, Fortrose and Rosemarkie with the good beach. Rural but with facilities and within easy reach of Inverness. It's not too far to the west coast either - a gorgeous drive to Ullapool.
