Moving primary kids from England to Scotland

Hi! We are looking into moving to Glasgow and I am feeling really nervous about moving my 3 children from their current Primary school that is tiny (130 kids) to a school more than double the size! They are turning 8 in feb and 7 in may (yr 2 and 3). Also we are within 20 mins of all our family here! Such a big change for them! Has anyone made a move similar?

I’ve only experience with the opposite, moving from a school with 450 pupils to one with 80, so can’t really help sorry.

If it does help at all though, many February born children defer a year before starting school (because the Scottish system is quite flexible, and the last day of February is the cut off date for being allowed to start school at 4 years old. January and February children can defer no questions asked and in my experience 99% do defer. September to December born can defer too. Many December born do defer, many don’t. Hardly any Sept/Oct/Nov born defer starting school until they are five unless they have additional needs etc). If your child went in with a class of other February borns then they’d be in Primary 3 at present (but you might prefer they go into Primary 4 if they’ve already done Reception, year 1 and year 2 and half way through yr 3). Your child turning 7 in May will be in Primary 2.

Hope the move goes ok!
