We are having our house renovated later in the summer (approx 13th-31st August) and we're looking for temporary accommodation for 2 adults and a toddler in west end of Glasgow / Bearsden / milngavie. Preferably at least 2 bedroom. No fixed budget but don't need anything particularly fancy. Does anyone know of anywhere I can look for this sort of thing?

Gumtree, surprisingly, sometimes has decent rentals.

Or could you look at AirBNB?

kaytee87 · 22/05/2018 19:07

I had a quick look at air bnb didn't see anything suitable. Will have a more in depth look now ds is in bed. Didn't think of gumtree, thanks!

Will uni halls have anything available?

prettybird · 22/05/2018 20:04

I'll see when my dad is next away - if you're ok with a cat! Wink It's just outside Bearsden/Milngavie though (in the countryside) so you'd need transport.

prettybird · 22/05/2018 20:05

....he's had house sitters in before.

kaytee87 · 22/05/2018 20:07

The question is whether the cat would be ok with a grabby toddler Grin
I actually think I'm mildly allergic to cats but I take antihistamines all summer anyway Halo

3 legged Siamese who, unusually had been a bit timid around strangers (never scratched, just made herself scarce) but has had a character change and now relishes attention. Wink

There's not much letting accommodation in Bearsden / Milngavie at all, and no short term places. Would it be worth putting a call into one of the Unis as their students will be away all summer.

kaytee87 · 23/05/2018 08:37

@FleurDelacoeur I'm not sure if the unis would have anything suitable for a family? Might be worth a try. Really doesn't seem to be much for short term, especially family friendly.

I'm sure they do have family units in uni halls for mature students. Definitely worth asking but you'd probably not be able to overrun the end of August as uni starts at beginning of September and people will want in to get settled.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 24/05/2018 11:55

Waxon the family units tend to stay occupied as they are in high demand.

Can you cross the timing over with a holiday? Rather than paying for accommodation in your own city, take the opportunity to visit somewhere else?

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/05/2018 12:08

doh! never thought of that troll

kaytee87 · 24/05/2018 13:18

@TrollTheRespawnJeremy we were away for a week at Easter, have a 2 week holiday in June and one week beginning August (we hope we might have everything organised to cross over with the week in August but will still need somewhere for a couple of weeks). We had hoped we might have had it all organised for our June holiday but there's been too much to organise and choose 🙈
So no more holidays as DH is self employed 😂

Oh rats. throws an envious look at all the holidays

My best guess would be to try all the local chat/buy and sell pages then.

FleurDelacoeur · 24/05/2018 18:12

I would also try to post on the Facebook community groups - I know the Bearsden Community page often carries this sort of request. Someone may know someone who is away for a few months and would let you housesit. Sure there are similar groups for the West End and Milngavie.

NatalieRushman · 24/05/2018 19:16

Take a look at Glasgow uni Facebook groups. Plenty of uni students vacate their flats over summer. A friend bought her dd a flat at Edinburgh uni and rents it out for a few weeks in summer by posting on Fb.

prettybird · 24/05/2018 22:41

Spoke to my dad and even though he's away over the summer and would've welcome house sitters Wink, unfortunately the dates won't work out.
