Hi, we're looking to live home soon and whilst Bearsden would be ideal for family ties, we need Glasgow for school purposes. I thought Kelvindale would be amour best bet but I've seen a house at the same budget (300k) but double the size and detached in Summerston. As the crow flies it's about half a mile away. The estate is called The Grange - does anyone have any thoughts? I've driven round and it seems quite nice but obviously it's not as close to the amenities of the west end as Kelvindale. I am tempted hey house size but don't want to regret location.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

I presume you know that there's a GME unit for East Dunbartonshire at Meadowburn Primary in Bishopbriggs? I know someone who's child goes there and they feel it's excellent. It's only primary though, as opposed to SGG.

Oh and with such big changes in GME in Glasgow, if you are keen on Glendale, be very careful where you buy as it is single form entry, so the catchment is tiny. There's no cap on children coming into GME, but you might be allocated SGG, Glendale or the new annexe in Govan.

Yes, Meadowburn looks great but it's a no-go for the high school aspect. What is single form entry?

Only one class. It's a very small school. SGG currently has 3.5 P1 classes. Some of the kids who would be in catchment for Glendale and SGG will be going to this new annexe, which will effectively be the 3rd bun-sgoil. Seems quite positive overall, instead of a panic over too many kids each year.

Hi there, I'm the one with dc at SGG. My 3 are all in the high school (S3,4 and6) now but have gone through since my eldest (now 18) was in P2 (she did P1 in Harris). Other 2 have been there since nursery - have yours started at nursery yet, the SGG one is great.

We lived in Shawlands/Polloksheilds area when our dc were younger but when we looked to buy had to look further out and now are in a lovely wee new build estate in Castlemilk. While still in primary the kids got a school bus, now they have a pass for FirstBus and get themselves to and from school.

The dividing line for the schools is the river - north and you go to Finneston, south and you go to Glendale. Both are extremely popular. High school is currently on the Finneston campus but I'd not be surprised if either the primary or secondary moves eventually to keep up with demand. We got places easily back when it wasn't such a popular choice.

Pupils wanting GME from Renfrewshire can be placed at the school - my Ds's best friend in primary was from Newton Mearns. South Lanarkshire has its own unit at Mount Cameron school in E K, which feeds into the secondary in Glasgow. I don't know about Bearsden/Milngavie.

Feel free to ask anything more or PM me - not sure I can be much help but will try!
