Double glazing companies Glasgow

Can anyone in the Glasgow area recommend a good but not really expensive company to fit double glazing? I just got a quote from Anglian of £6600 for 5 Windows which seems a lot! (Started at £11000 before being head office!)

We've used Durashield in the past who were good and another company based in Clydebank, Enviro Windows. Both competitive prices and they haven't bombarded us with advertising afterwards either.

Don’t use Everest! We have had issue after issue with our expensive windows.

Oh, and don't use Penicuik - my mum's just had really bad service from them.

I got a new door from Ace Windows and doors. The service was good and I think the price was reasonable.

We used Ace in Paisley, new storm doors and upvc sash windows. Great price and service. Had about 6 out to quote, found it helpful to visit them and see the quality in the showroom. Some others were terrible, so don’t just judge on cost.

Reading with interest as we'd like to replace our Victorian sash windows with double glazed units to stop the massive heat loss. In a conservation area though, so will have to be wooden ones - and with a large bay window and 5 other large windows, it is going to cost a fortune so we will probably have to do it in stages or win the lottery

Wouldn't touch Everest with a barge pole. Had replacement guttering , fascia and soffits from them and it was an awful experience.

I'm nowhere near Glasgow, but I've had most of my windows replaced over the last year as part of a bigger building job, by my builder. The last five were all bedroom windows, which weren't huge, they cost £750 for the five (white upvc, double glazed). They took about two days to install, at £300 per day, although there were other jobs going on betweentimes, so probably about £1200 all in. So my advice is to contact a local builder!

We used Clyde Windows. They’re based in Larkhall but cover Glasgow as well as Lanarkshire. They were fab.

Update; just got a quote from Ace. Much much cheaper than Anglian (not surprising!) and only here 10 mins, no messing around with discounts etc. Thanks for that suggestion.

I think I'm going with Ace but I'm worried that they seem too cheap! Are you really happy with everything about them? No little niggles? Windows not letting in water? Sorry but stressing about choosing wrong!

With two recommendation I wouldn't worry, certain companies who have been named are known for being very expensive with no good reason.

I had some initial issues with the front storm doors, they are black and the sun in the afternoon was causing them to stick. Stevie was out same or next day for a look and ended up getting the manufacturer of the doors out to resolve the issue. Similarly one window from a third party supplier (upvc sash window) would move slightly when closing and it was resolved really quickly.

After the initial issues were resolved I’ve had no problems, drafts or leaks.

Anglian are expensive but they are good. I had Anglian windows, doors and a porch put in 16 years ago and they are still good as new. While fitting the fitters made no mess (we had just redecorated too) and they covered my entire house with thick sheets. They also had a guarantee and Anglian called a year and then again at 6 months before the guarantee ran out to check if all was ok or if anything needed repaired before the guarantee ran out. I'd use them again.

I would contact window advice centre they have a free service that gives advice on what you need who the best companies to get it from and how much it should cost. The thing I like is that they inspect jobs before you pay the contractor and if there are any issues you don’t pay till fixed.

The window advice centre do not give a free service. They actually charge you 25% commision which is added on to your costs. How do you think they make money. The only money you pay upfront is 25% of the contract and guess what ? that is there commision. Yes they do come and inspect the job when it is finished but you could save 25% if you done your own homework. There is a lot of local double glazing companies in glasgow who do a great job.
