Stovies?

For the sake of my marriage (lighthearted) can someone tell me how to make stovies or even what they are, poor DH has been deprived of stovies for 14 years. I have never heard of them and he has no idea how they are made.

In 14 years he has made no attempt to make them himself and it's your job to learn.

Ok!

Not got time t read the whole thread, sorry, but this is a subject close to my heart. Here's how my maw made stovies. You need the remains of a roast beef joint. Use the dripping to soften sliced onions. Add cubed potatoes (not waxy ones cause you want them to break down a bit). Then add any leftover jelly/gravy from your roasting tin. Plus a splash of water or stock. Stew slowly till potatoes are cooked and breaking up. If any meat left from the roast can shred and stir in. We always accompanied with a glass of cold milk for some reason. If your local butcher makes his own roast beef you should be able to buy a pot of dripping plus jelly - that's what I do as hardly ever roast a joint these days. Corned beef belongs in corned beef hash, a fine dish but it ain't stovies.

I absolutely hated stovies growing up. I struggle to think of foods I don’t like, but stovies fits the bill.

CroneAlone has it right. Stovies do not contain corned beef, sausages, vegetables other than potatoes or any other nonsense. Always with milk to drink, oatcakes and pickled beetroot. I'm willing to bet CroneAlone is from Aberdeenshire.
I am willing to allow turkey stovies made in the same way.
Stovies are a way of using leftovers from a roast.

Square Sausage, Onions,Potatoes. Plain bread and a mug of tea. My mum taught us how to make stovies and I've NEVER been able to make them the same as hers.

Nobody can make stovies like their mum, that's a given.
