Moving house - when to get removals to arrive?

I'm trying to arrange my mum's house move from England, where you'd get removals to arrive around midday and hope things happened about then.
Is it the same in Scotland?

Does it all need to be coordinated on the one day? Is there any way you could have some overlap?

Depends on the size of the house and whether packing is included in what the removal company are doing. For our last few moves the packers have been in a day before moving day (2 days before when it was an international move as the packing is much more detailed etc) - most stuff gets packed up the day before and they usually just leave beds and a few essentials in the kitchen. Then on moving day they finish up and then sit and wait until keys are handed over, then drive to new property and start unloading. We've had keys as early as 9.30am and the latest I think we have ever had was about 2pm. It's a totally different system here so people don't pull out the day before or anything - the sale is tied up before moving day and the day itself is really just a transfer of funds. It can take longer if you're at the end of a long chain, but we have been in a chain of 4 and still got our keys mid-morning.

My mum's end is all fine, her stuff is in storage. The only thing to happen is funds to move, which is straghtforward. Only the two of them in a chain.

I just don't know what's reasonable in terms of expecting the vendor to move out. In England it's middayish.

On one of our moves our buyers were driving up and down our street at 8.30am waiting for us to move out!!! We were actually out by about 10am which I would say is fairly standard but our funds didn' transfer through until closer to midday - buyers funds were in our account by 9.30 so as soon as we were out they were in (literally - they pulled up as we drove around the corner), but we then had to go and hang out in a cafe until we could get our keys!

Usually the solicitors have agreed a rough time - ours was midday

With ours we were advised late morning for the funds to transfer - it was actually mid afternoon. Our removers came at 9 (busy road and that's when our parking suspension started) and loaded - we'd sorted pretty much everything the day before, kids had gone to inlaws and we slept on a mattress surrounded by boxes. They then drove off and left a number for us to call when we got our keys - but we were moving within the same area of Edinburgh and it was the last Friday of the month, so lots of people moving and they said their teams just all helped each other out according to who got access when.
