Dd is S4 but looking at courses at Uni's mainly for the entry requirements but also with a view to possibly visit and get a feel for them.

The dates for 2017 entry open days are up. She was looking for 2028/2019 entry (she needs some surgery so may defer for a year for recovery). Would it be too soon to visit with her to show her what to expect?

Glasgow City Council has harmonised its inset days so that polling days (or the referendum) are held on them although they've been stuffed by the European Referendum which has been announced after all the Insets with the exception of 5 May have been used up plus it's the day before schools close for the dinner holidays

Ds' primary school is not used as a polling station but the two other local primary schools are. I can understand why it wouldn't be safe to have the school open as the classrooms open directly onto the access to the assembly hall.

The Parent Council at ds' secondary school complained about the school shutting for polling day and they've managed to work out a way of allowing access safely while keeping the rest of the school operating.

Come to think of it: if the Assembly Hall is used for exams, how can it be used as a polling station? Hmm

Not my polling station (mine is in the old burgh hall) so I must ask! Grin

I took my Dd to Heriot Watt's open day just as she was finishing 4th year. She was interested in the Interpreting/translating course. I'm really glad we went as she got a chance to ask a senior lecturer about their preferences for Highers/Advanced Highers and it saved her taking a crash higher she thought she needed!

She decided against their course eventually and has an offer for a different course at Edinburgh, but it was definitely a good idea to let her see what a Uni looked like.

And Heriot-Watt looks lovely by the way!
