DSs' high school has stopped teaching computing!

As of August this year S1 -3 can't take computing. S4 -S6 can complete what they are doing. The single teacher we have has had such a bad pass rate for 5 years the school no longer want to allow other children to suffer such poor outcomes. How can this be right in 2016 when STEM is meant to be so important ? I think the roll is around 1800 so not a wee school.
Who's the best person the complain to?

You should also have list MSPs you could write to - although it's maybe a bit pointless now that Holyrood has gone into recess in the run up to the election.

You could always write to all the candidates and ask them: say whoever gives the best response gets your vote and/or their party gets your list vote. Grin

I thought computing was being cut from the new curriculum because it was going to be used across all subjects rather than being a stand alone?

prettybird · 28/03/2016 18:29

Is it not ICT that is across all the subjects?

Computing Science is a discrete subject which includes programming.

Yy prettybird
There's no way teachers qualified in other subjects would have the skills and expertise to deliver and assess Computing as a discrete subject. ( Basic ICT skills can be embedded as a Core Skill throughout other subjects)

I've realised I forgot to write to the education minister though as pretty bird and my msp say parliament is in recess now so not good timing.

My main aim is not to get into a party political debate but to get some help for almost 100 kids at my dss' school who are facing exams after receiving proven and recognised inadequate teaching. I'm hitting the phone tomorrow since my emails have got nowhere and time is slipping by.

The rector was at pains to point out btw way that ICT was still being taught across the curriculum completely separately to computing science.

As an aside I can remember when CfE was first explained to us being told that there would be huge overlaps in teaching and assessment ie an an art history essay could also count towards a history and English award depending on content and how well it was written, I don't know what happened to that idea, it seemed to disappear years ago.
